A Waterfall in the Lake DistrictsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #landscapephotography5 years ago (edited)

The landscape of the Lake District was formed by glaciation from the last ice age (10,000 years ago) and the current lakes are fed by the many waterfalls from the local mountains that continue to transform this land.

We decided to follow the path of the stream from one of these waterfalls. The photos below show how the stream grows in size to become a fast flowing river.

A Waterfall in the Lake District

The waterfall above looks quite small and gentle but it soon turns into a torrent further downstream as you can see in the photo below.

Fast water

It was interesting to see that this stream was fast turning into a river pretty quick with plenty of rapids.

Rapids

I don't think it would be possible to run these rapids in a canoe or kayak. I could be wrong of course.

More Rapids

Further downstream the river spread out wider but it was still travelling at quite a speed. Below was the first bridge that we came to which had a cafe so we sat and had a cream tea. I know it's out of season but it was very good.

I must admit that I was surprised at how much water was flowing down this mountain stream and this was in autumn and the waterfall seemed so peacful and serene.

In the spring time after the snows in the mountains. These streams must be much bigger and fast flowing and incredible to see. We will have to go back in spring to see it.

It was a pleasant walk and I cannot remember which day it was and I know it's not wednesday but will enter it for #wednesdaywalk initiated by @tattoodjay I'm sure he will be happy to see some countryside images.

A note of the photography. To get the movement in the water. I used these settings.

I can't believe I voted too early! Oh, my! I am fired!

On another note, the stream from way up high was such a lovely addition to the landscape, flanked by all that autumnal beauty.

Amazing how quickly it can become a dangerous set of rapids. There are a lot of kayakers in my house and they love the rapids, however, there are so many accidents with kayaks and big rocks that are in the path of movement. Well, enough said on that.

Thank you for the wonderful walk and yes! I can only imagine how deep it would be on a spring melt day!

It happens to me too when I see a new post. I rarely check the posting time which is obvious I suppose. Your vote goes back into the reward pool so it's all good haha

The rapids were super fast. I wouldn't go down it in a kayak. Looks way to rocky. It may be easier in the spring melt?

Easier as in more water, yes. I wouldn't go down when I can see that many rocks and not much water.

Hello!

What gorgeous scenery such a beautiful area

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk tip!

My pleasure Jay, I thought you might like this post. Thanks for the tip.

I did indeed loved how you talk us from the waterfall to the wide stream

Great shots Michael 😊
The force of water is incredible

Thanks Kevin, it becomes a real torrent in a pretty short distance. It was a nice walk along the stream.

These are all terrific shots. I have to say, though, my favorite is the bridge. :D

The bridge was a nice finish to the walk as there was a nice cafe to sit and watch the river for a while.

Great photos. I miss hearing rapids. Lovely place to be was it cold?

I like the places where a waterfall springs, I believe that besides visual beauty there is also a beauty of sound. A beautiful trip, @molometer. Of course it needs to be repeated.
