Scotland Roundtrip VI - Ardvreck Castle, Kylesku and Assynt [EN/DE]

As we crossed the land from west to east, we entered a new magical world of stunning nature. It was only a two hours drive, but we saw such beauty that still haunts me. First we stopped at the Ardvreck castle ruin, located at lake Assynt and built in 1490. We met our german friends from Tain again and explored the area for a while. We found many sheeps but also tons of ticks on our legs! That was the last time I was wearing a skirt in Scotland.

Als wir das Land von Westen nach Osten durchquerten, betraten wir eine magische Welt von atemberaubender Natur. Es war insgesamt eine Fahrt von nur zwei Stunden, aber wir sahen eine solche Schönheit, die mich auch jetzt noch fasziniert. Zuerst hielten wir an der Ruine des Ardvreck Castle, die auf einer Halbinsel des Lake Assynt steht und um 1490 herum erbaut wurde. Wir trafen zufällig unsere deutschen Freunde aus Tain wieder und erkundeten die Gegend für eine Weile. Wir fanden viele Schafe, aber auch unzählige Zecken an unseren Beinen! Das war das letzte Mal in Schottland, dass ich einen Rock anhatte..

Our next stop: Kylesku, a little village at Loch Gleann Dubh. I read in a travel guide that somewhere nearby the hightest waterfall in Scotland can be found and I wanted to see it - Eas a' Chual Aluinn (sounds like a magic spell to me). We arrived at the harbour of Kylesku and were almost the only tourists. There was a guy who offered boat trips on the lake to the waterfall, but they actually only started with six passengers - we were two. But since the captain loved my husbands Spinal Tap shirt we got a private tour. Surrounded by mighty mountains we crossed the lake by boat, past seals, gulls and green cliffs to the waterfall and back.

Unser nächster Stop: Kylesku, ein kleines Dorf am Loch Gleann Dubh. Ich hatte in einem Reiseführer gelesen, dass in der Gegend der höchste Wasserfall Schottlands zu finden sei und ich wollte ihn sehen - Eas a' Chual Aluinn (klingt für mich wie ein Zauberspruch). Wir kamen am Hafen von Kylesku an und waren beinahe die einzigen Touristen. Es gab jemanden, der Bootstouren auf dem See bis zum Wasserfall anbot, allerdings nur ab sechs Passagieren - wir waren zu zweit. Aber da der Kapitän das Spinal Tap Shirt meines Ehemanns so mochte, bekamen wir eine Privat-Tour. Umgeben von mächtigen Bergen überquerten wir mit dem Boot den See, vorbei an Seehunden, Möwen und grünen Klippen bis hin zum Wasserfall und zurück.

We left happy Kylesku and drove through the stunning landscape of Assynt on to our next Airbnb in Clashnessie, where a vegetarian three course dinner awaited us.

Glücklich verliesen wir Kylesku und fuhren weiter durch die atemberaubende Landschaft von Assynt zu unserem nächsten Airbnb in Clashnessie, wo uns ein vegetarisches Drei-Gänge-Abendessen erwartete.
