TRAGEDY IN SOUTH TYROL 1950 --- TRAGÖDIE IN SÜDTIROL 1950

This is my contribution to #landscapephotography by @photocontests.

I took the picture last summer at Rechensee. The church tower rising out of the water tells the sad story of the villages of Graun and Rechen, which had to be abandoned for the construction of the reservoir in 1950. The only contemporary witness of this drama is this church tower, which could not be blown up for monument protection reasons.

Thank you so very much, Joe!

Such a beautiful photo and so sad story. In my area there are a similar story of a village that was abandoned to build a reservoir.

Thank you so very much, Silvia!

Guess it's always a tragedy when you have to give up house and everything.

It’s a sad story, what makes me think of “Doel” in Belgium, they had plans to to make a extra dock , city is abandoned too. This is a amazing picture 👍🏻

Thank you so very much!

Yes, guess there are similar stories all over the world. Now it is a tourist attraction, but for the people chased out of their homes, it was a tragedy.

Wow ... this is a fabulous shot. I guess not the church can only be visited by snorklers and divers. Be cool to see:)

Thank you so very much, Pryde!

Yeah, guess there are a lot of divers exploring the church and other remains of the two small villages on the bottom of the lake.

Tip!

Thank you so very much, my friend! 😃

Next to me is the city of Kalyazin. Like many others, it was flooded during the construction of the reservoir. The bell tower was also flooded. The bell could not be removed, and it fell into the water. Under the water, the bell began to ring and frighten the inhabitants. Divers were hired to tie the bell so that he sent the call. There is a legend that the bell warns residents about bad events: war, hurricanes ...

WOW, that's kind of creepy! I imagine how one must be afraid, when the bell suddenly sounds under the water. 😳

Have a nice day, my friend!
