We have treated a lot about leadership few weeks ago but I need to add few more points that I didn’t really address in those posts. We are all familiar with the word ‘leader’ and the responsibilities that go along with it. Often times we mistake the position for the roles. Yes, with the position comes the roles but often times many people see the position as a popularity contest and fail to live up to the roles.
Your leadership ability is more about the impact you are making rather than the position you are holding. If you can’t make something significant with the position you are holding, then your leadership ability should be called into question. Being a leader is about leader a group of people to achieve a common goal whereby they are developed alongside too. A leader should spot different strength and use it to the benefit of the overall goal.
When people ask you if you are a leader or what roles you have held before now or you are currently holding, make sure you include in it the impacts you are also making alongside it. Always talk about the impacts you are making. When you ask any Apple employee, they won’t tell you they are selling phones, they would rather tell you they are making lives better. That is how to think as a leader and that is how to have a positive approach. Why do you think many people would part away with such huge sum to acquire the phone? Once you are not adding a value or once a product is not adding a value to you, it is normal for such a person or such a product not to be in high demand.

Wherever you find yourself, always try to make a difference rather than seeking to just be known. Those who try to make a difference will always be sought after than those who just try to seek for positions.

Being a leader is more than holding a position of authority alone. There are more to it than the position itself. In Africa nation today, it is painful that we don't have leaders, what we have are people who occupied leadership positions. A leader must be selfless, that is, interested more in the development of those that brought him to position of power and not just me and my family that make most of our leaders not effective in discharging their duties today.
Thank you for pointing that out. We have people who just occupy leadership positions for the power and affluence attached to it rather than the desire to serve and improve others. We need to change our ways of thinking and know that leadership is a call to serve and not an avenue to loot and seek popularity and it is not surprising why you will see many people kill just to get that "position".
