Review of Indiana Restaurant

in #letseat6 years ago

it has often been the case that i have walked out unhappy after eating food at a restaurant recommended by others. not this time. the restaurant is indiana. my previous flat was also in the same area, and so is the hostel where i currently reside and 2 and half years, i had never had the chance to order food from this place or eat there. a friend of mine recently recommended it and i decided to go pay it a visit today.

indiana is located in salmon lane, and the road by itself is a small lane, occupied mostly by grocery shops and chicken shops on both sides. so indiana can go unnoticed. the exterior is all black so one can't see inside, it looks like a lounge bar/shady club from the outside. however, once you walk in, you will see the vibe of an indian restaurant.

to our surprise, there was just one person manning the whole restaurant when i went. i am also very skeptical of restaurants that claim to sell indian food but items are spelled with an accent, since they are run by folks from bangladesh. and there if difference in the food, the tastes of both countries being very different.

the menu is decent, good amount of starters to choose from, curries, biryani, chef specials and a range of bread, all reasonably priced. i ordered aloo palak (spinach and potato, cooked with spices) and black pepper chicken with fenugreek. for breads i chose chapati (Indian tortilla) and stuffed parantha (pan fried flatbread). not a single dish dissappointed. the flavour and taste was authentic, and not a single spice was overpowering. food was really good. and if you've been to north india, you will know how much people love stuffed parantha. its an everyday breakfast for some and i haven't had it in london for a long time. the stuffed parantha i had at indiana was as good as that in india. dinner for 2 sorted in 20 pounds, and both i and my wife were stuffed by the end of it.

i havent tried everything but i think nothing at indiana should disappoint. its a hidden gem in east london, and i hope its busy during fridays and weekends. i will definitely be going to this restaurant more often and totally recommend it! 4/5 as i am yet to try more.
