Man finds no crypto with metal detector - Jogging in Cala Millor

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Running was never my favourite thing, but if there was a football to kick after doing so, then I used to be game. I probably still would be, if I could find anyone, even just one adult with a ball, I'd go kick it for a while with them. However, Cala Millor is like a retirement home in the sun with some young families and just enough staff to keep the hotels and bars running. So yeah, not much ball and a slow pace to life, means one can get pretty lazy.

Today I went for an evening run, although these days I can safely call it a jog. Years of football have not been kind to my legs and feet. The wrong footwear, no footwear, broken toes, raised arches, and now fallen arches are just some of the reasons it's tough going. However, I need to get rid of this beer belly, and cycling isn't cutting it this year.

So with my thick socks and reasonably expensive runners, fitted with a spongy insole and some sponge at the back of the shoe, I set of down to the promenade earlier this evening. There are other joggers about, but the majority of the people there are sipping on cocktails and listening to the likes of 'Alles Scheiße', which I think means that 'all is not very good' - they seem to like it anyway.

Normally I'm cycling along here, but moving slower and much keener to stop for a rest, I took a few photos along the way. This means that you won't have to hear about me complaining much about how much my legs hurt because of how much over pronation my ankles have got going on.

The sun rises over the sea, and hides behind the hotels in the evening, it's a little cooler down here and you have the above to look at along the way.

This guy is someone I recognize from previous visits. I'm not even sure he's playing the wind pipes, and you can buy a CD for 10 euros if you like. I didn't want to get too close in case his wife tried to charge me for the photo!

4.jpg

I'm still not sure how I feel about this, but we have a couple of locals with metal detectors searching for err, metal stuff - probably coins and rings etc. I guess the tourists wont be locating them the next day so it's fair game. They had no luck while I stood watching (ha).

5.jpg

Next up, the Buggy and one of the 3 wheelers that are for hire. They were cunningly parked outside the busiest bar and along the busiest stretch of the promenade, and I suspect are not cheap to rent - considering it's something like 30 euros for 3 hours on a moped. Still, they look pretty cool, but personally, I'd like to see the dude with a burnt orange helmet.

6.jpg

Next up, the slightly slower vehicle that takes up the whole cycle lane and fits something like 57 people. You would have thought that without all that leg power, they would go a bit quicker - nope. Earlier in the jog I witnessed a couple stack a similar peddle car into a post, and last year a low branch scuppered another group of 4. I wont make any accusations as to the sex of the drivers being the reasons why :P

Finally, in a mostly German resort, you can tell the Brits have arrived - by the cunning use of flags.

Come on guys, it's not 1492.

Their only saving grace is that the World Cup starts tomorrow, and well, that'll mean more flags, beer, and hopefully more jogging from yours truly.

Come on England, more goals, less Scheiße please!

Cheers

Asher

Awesome post Ash! It sucks getting old, doesn't it. That's not a jab...I speak from experience :) Suddenly beer sticks to the mid-section when years ago it never did!

I smiled with your photo and description of the street musician. We stopped and listened to these really cool guys playing here the other day and got roped into first a tip, then not long after, the cd haha. Sometimes 'distance' is your friend.

And that vehicle that holds all the people? Makes me want to tell them all to get out and walk instead. What did you mean to say about the drivers? LOL

Yes the mid section is collecting beer and everything at present, I'm not even drinking or eating anywhere near as much as I used to! I'm determined to get in shape for 40 though!

Have you listened to the whole CD yet? A friend bought one a few years ago and it felt like i was listening to track 1 on repeat :D

No comments on the sex of the drivers on both occasions - I've had a few crashes here - which of course I'm partly blaming on the opposite sex :P

I think all the time sitting at a computer does nothing for our girlish and boyish figures 😎

I'm too afraid of being disappointed to listen to the cd :) I've been caught up before with the whole atmosphere of a street performer, bought the cd, then yes, like your friend, it's track 1 over and over and over again. haha Screw it; I'm putting it on now...you're to blame buddy if I lose my girlish figure to the beer now in sorrow and shame for doing it again lol

I grew up on a farm, driving like my brothers at an early age. I am a good driver, but have to admit that many of my fairer sex are now 😅

Really comments my dear friends

Haha hopefully Alles is not sheisse in this world cup 😂

As the World Cup is coming up I have talked with my friends about England and how world cups are not going so well for the last few (many) years. It’s really a pity because soccer is so big in England and it would be fun to see them reach a final.

Working out on that island I understand can be tough. It’s like trying to run in the treadmill at home while the wife is eating cheese and drinking wine. Of course the scenario is usually (always) the opposite, but I can see how it can be hard when everyone is in the chill zone and you’re trying to work out

haha, I don't expect much from England, although the young team could do better than I think. Hopefully!

And yeah, it's a resort - everyone is relaxing and stuffing their faces with cake and booze - I can't do that all year though and get away with it!

The best title you wrote so far! The big holiday already starts in Belgium. It is simple here, the kids have no school between the 1st of July and the 1ste of September. So the Belgians will be coming (to bad we won't) and these flags will hopefully will stay longer than the lion flags :). Only time will tell!
But what I did want to say is that during these months, even in Cala millor the average age will decrease. For once a decrease is good, this past weeks when I did use decrease in a post or comments, it probably wasn't that promising!

Enjoy the summer in Mallorca, will be something special with the World Cup I guess!

It doesn't matter if you jog or run, at least you are doing something!

And yes the Belgian flag will join us on our journey to Greece :)

Ahh good, at least it's not just the Brits with the flag addiction then! 'We' play each other in the groups, I hope both teams have qualified by that point :)

Hopefully you are right with a few more 'younger' holiday makers, this place needs livening up!

Here at home we have two flags outside the house and even at work I did hang up a flag to torture my Dutch Co-workers (I do work in the Netherlands). Did this last Monday, and I was surprised that it was still there when I came back Tuesday morning :)
You can see the prove in my blogposts :)

To bad Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey didn't qualify, otherwise the complete village would be full of flags. Now we only do see the Spanish, Moroccan and Belgian flags :)

As a German, I always have to chuckle whenever I unexpectedly see or hear someone use the word "Scheiße" while talking English.

May I ask where you are actually coming from?

Yes, I'm English. I believe it's pronounced 'shi-ze', meaning 'crap' or 'shit'? :)

Hopefully soon I'll hear 'Big fat titties potato salad' coming out of the bars too :D

Hahahaha, oh, my, I haven't ever seen that song being referred to in english :D But yeah, I am sure you will soon.

Yes, "Scheiße" means "Shit". If I were to paraphrase it, I would say

"Sh" "I" "s" "a"

The "Sh" sounds just like in "She"
The "I" just like in "I"
the "s" is basically a hissing s like in "bars"
The "a" as in "a""ago"

Putting that together should give you the correct way to pronounce it.

So, you lost me with the whole running/jogging/exercising thing, but you got me back with the view of the sea. :)

I guess I missed the reason why the cycling wasn't working, other than there's too many large rock and concrete "art" thingies blocking the view. Did that have to to with your legs and feet, too?

Well, I hope you're able to accomplish what you've set out to accomplish, so that you can consider the running/jogging a success. In the meantime, I'll go take a nap from being tired from reading about all your exertion. :)

heh :)

Cycling gives you strong legs, and is much less impact, but it doesn't seem to shift much off the mid section - 30km a day in 90 degree heat was working last year, but that was my commute and it's tough to do that each day without a good reason!

Got to keep moving Glen!

No more commute. What about food intake?

Anytime I've looked on calorie counting app, there's always more to be lost through eating differently than there is in normal exercise. If you pump up the intensity quite a bit, then maybe there's some more calories burning, but that puts more wear and tear on the body and doesn't necessarily take care of the midriff, unless these extreme exercises target the area and actually work, another thing I haven't had much success with. The only thing I've seen work regularly is changing what I eat. However, it needs to be a long lasting change. Not one that drops the weight and then immediately disappears after the goal is met, because the poundage comes back.

Regardless I wish you luck. :)

I'm eating pretty well I think.

No meat, very little dairy (no cows milk or cheese), and a good amount of green veg, but i think to go all out I need to cut the carbs down - which sadly means little beer, but it's the world cup!

Yeah. I wasn't going to bring up the whole carbs/beer thing. However, World Cup only lasts for a couple of weeks, and so the reduction of intake can wait on the beer, I suppose, and the carbs, well, if that's a part of the World Cup, as well, then hey, what's a couple more weeks on that, too? :)

It's only a month, but I've already been practicing and drinking fresh orange juice. It's tough not to ask for a beer in a pub, but i find it easier to do so when you are sitting outside.

I was thinking to only drink beer for the England games, that could reduce my intake a lot - especially in later weeks :D

Very enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing Asher.

Thanks man. I'm never sure how these will be received, but I guess it's original content at least.

Enjoying your history of work/internet at present :)

Cheers. I do like your analytical and community stuff too, but this kind of post gives us all a bit of an insight into Asher the person behind @abh12345 and I do appreciate that.

Glad to hear you're enjoying my current series. Unless I get struck by more inspiration I've only got 1 more planned for that series which I'll probably write on Sunday.

Thanks :) I do think it's good to mix up some real person with the stat and it's something I've tried to do for a while now. Usually I get a nudge on a comment which makes me realise I need to balance :)

I'd like to hear more about what you think will happen over the next 5 years or so - that could be part 5? :D

I actually have a different 4 part series I've wanted to write on the Crypto Revolution for several months now, but I've never got around to it. It always seems too daunting and needs some time and research to get it right.

My DotCom series is more intended to be retrospective and drawing parallels. I think between you and I it might be a bit therapeutic for me too ;)

Bloody good job I read this, I thought the world cup started Saturday.
Mind them legs old man, you may have better results doing sit ups, just saying.

situps_c_149648.jpg

3 times a week at present, got my trusty routine for those!

The hosts open the show today, I hope they lose :D

Expensive but comfy...enjoy!

Currently staying at my mum's apartment that she bought but doesn't use! #dropout

At least it's being used😁

Yes that's what I keep telling her! :D

If you ever make it to Chicago IL area let me know and it would be fun to kick a ball around with you.

For the life of me I can't understand why a metal detector doesn't help you find cryptocurrency >< :D

Thanks for the offer! :D

Oh gawd... Brits abroad with flags... look out. Xx

Posted using Partiko Android

yeah, flags and pink faces!

Oh gawd... I'm married to a pom and the first thing he did upon arriving in Australia with me was to get out his birthday suit in the sunshine. Never again. . So lobster!!! He's definitely not a flag waver though so I didn't sent him back 🤣

haha

We get so little sun that at the sight of it we just must stand/lay in it for hours! With the lobster effect happening soon after :D
