Hope really is that elusive elixir, when found and fulfilled gives wings when once there none.

Hope of a new nation that would always uphold human dignity, equality, human rights, non-racialism, non-sexism, the vote for accountability and transparency of government and the supremacy of our constitution and rule of law.

And so let’s do talk about hope. About how hope is often the sword arm of courage, the backbone of determination, the wings of love and the fore bearer of laughter.

Let’s never ever lose hope; it carries with it the seeds of hopes and dreams, love and joys, balance and equality. Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.

Do you believe in hope? I do completely, totally, naively with every single bone in my body. I believe hope underpins our very humanity. It is a building block of us, of civilisations, of communities, of ALL people.

All through last week I watched and listened along with many fellow Malaysians as we stood together on the brink of history. And let me be clear; it was a joy to finally see our democracy working in full swing, of seeing men and women committed to its correct and fair implementation.

After all, this very democracy was built on a great deal of hope….
