How the Ketogenic Diet could help you with your weight and time on Steemit~!

Hello Steemians!

I just had a thought today concerning the cons that come with spending time in front of a computer. We're all aware of the dangers of sitting in front of a computer for so long that your butt starts to take the shape of the chair you've been sitting on for 6 hours trying to make some money...

Well, have no fear. There is a solution. It might be effective, it might not. From what I've seen, it works with everybody I've recommended so far.

A little backstory before we get started:

--I weighed 220 pounds 3 years ago. I was 60 pounds overweight and I had just gotten out of a very traumatic relationship. I took matters into my own hands trying to "work out" and "go to the gym" and "get some gainz" and all that self-centered lingo the fitness world so eloquently embeds in our society.

--I had NO TIME, both phyiscally and mentally. If I wasn't working on something, I'd still be too lazy and burnt out to work on my body.

Therefore, with a little research, I came across the ketogenic diet.

(I'm going to use the website antranik.org/keto-diet for the statistics and information below, none of the below images belong to me)

I know what you're thinking: "Okay, there's meats, broccoli, the good stuff, olive oil.. wait.. butter?.. wait.. Animal fat?! GREASE? PORK?!! OH MY!"

Or you could be vegan/vegetarian and dismissing this post entirely (like you think there's a diet that works for literally everybody).

But yeah, the diet basically consists of high fat, moderate protein, and low-to-no carb foods.

Sounds counter-intuitive, doesn't it?

It is. It really is.

So what the diet basically does (for the utmost layman) is convince your body to burn something called "ketones" for fat (in a process called "nutritional ketosis") instead of our usual "glucose" from carbs, which we need for energy. Another form of ketosis not related to this diet is called "starvational ketosis" where your body looks for excess, stored fats to keep itself alive. The two processes are quite similar.

Ketones are basically "fat energy cells" produced by the liver that gets carried to the rest of the body to be burned for fuel. Once the body runs out of "glucose", it turns to the only other thing that it could survive off of, stored fat. Therefore, your body starts to rely on the pesky stored fat for energy after a low-carb caloric deficit.

I went on this diet for 3 months and lost 60 pounds!

No working out.

No lifting. No nothing.

However, it is highly recommended. The biggest reason I'm posting about this on Steemit is because I'm aware a lot of you spend time on the computer here and this is your main source of income. It would suck if your health conditions worsened because of that.

That's why I recommended this diet.

Pros:

  1. The food tastes. So. Freaking. Good. If you're having a burger, you're having it without the bun. You can eat so much meat (all the beef briskets and pulled pork you want) and all your Epic Meal Time fantasies (as long as they're cooked in good animal fat and not breaded). You can make so many recipes out of them

  2. It's satiating. You'll lose your appetite quickly. You'll find it hard to not feel full on this diet.

  3. You'll be super-aware of the amount of sugar in anything you eat (if you decide to cheat). Bread tastes like cardboard. Junk food tastes like.. well.. Junk.

  4. Since your body needs some carbs for nutritious purposes, it is totally okay for you to get kicked out of ketosis and then getting back in to refill all your bodily needs.

Cons:

  1. You can't eat anything you want obviously.

  2. Say bye-bye to candy, sugar, Pastas, Pizzas, Burgers, Rice, Beans, Legumes, and starches.

  3. Keto Flu: You get those in your first weeks of being on keto (they're not that bad and they go away easily. It also means it's working). Keto flu consists of nausea and flu-like symptoms that go away in a day or two.

  4. Consistency and motivation: Even though the diet is very satisfying and satiating, it could be hard to live in the sugar-filled world around you, with people offering you a slice of pizza or a donut.

That's all for today about Keto. :) Hope you enjoyed this post : )

Love,
Basil
