Happy Saint Patricks Day

So it is now officially Saint Patricks day here in Ireland. It's funny but my experience of Patricks day is always better abroad than it is at home. This meme says it all really. Aside from say Dublin and maybe Cork , Patrick's day is bit like below for the rest of us. We all head to a parade. Watch a few majorettes, marching bands, old army men and a few fire engines and then we head to the pub for a drink. Nothing too mad. 1 or 2 because we are with kids. And then home. It always rains on the parade (no pun intended) so we normally get soaked. Granted there are a couple of dopes with St Patrick day costumes but they are sick of the grief at this stage.

When I lived in Germany we got dressed up and it was like the top photo. The riverdance was tried where ever there was space. Many drink was had and I remember the hangovers the next day as being catastrophic but it was worth it. I remember one particular moment in the anglo where we managed to borrow a couple of poncho's off one of the German girls. We dressed the new boy up in the poncho and a head band and made him do the Michael Flatley entrance. Photo below pretty much sums up that moment.

So it is better to be anywhere but Ireland on Patricks day because the session is better. I have lived in Dublin for 7 years and they were just mad days altogether. The city centre gets messy very early in the day because everyone is on the booze. t Dublin city centre is not a great place to be after 3pm so we used to retreat to the suburbs.
The plan tomorrow is a tame one. Bring the little one to see the nee nah's . Stop by the local pub to say hello to the mother and father and then maybe get a nice takeaway. I'm happy with that these days. Can't be dealing with no catastrophic hangovers no more

My mom owns a tiny restaurant in my home town (only one in town) and every year on St. Patty’s day she has a special corned beef and cabbage. Locals go bananas for it

I had the feeling Ireland might be a bit more sedate about it all. Similar to the Independence Day enthusiasm here - we eat bbq and shoot off a few fireworks. Not a big deal.

I did my tradition of making Irish soda bread muffins and tea brack, and that's all the celebrating we are doing...I just happen to really like baking things :)

What’s the difference between Irish soda bread and normal side bread?? Is it laced with whiskey ? Do you just talk in an Irish accent while kneading the mixture ? To be sure to be sure 😀😂😂😂

We exclusively say Irish soda bread, because I think basically all Americans dont like it, but would be inclined to eat it on St. Patricks Day :)

I make muffins out of it, which is an entirely different beast if you ask me, and delicious.

I always go to croke park for the club finals every year with a crowd of mates. We have access to one of the boxes so it's a nice way to spend the early part of the day. After that it's the traditional sinking of the pints but still enjoy the whole thing.
Wont make it this year due to certain reasons but really miss going up there and can't wait for the next time. I would like to try a different country some time but probably not America. They tend to get a bit over excited about these things.

I’d like to do the states to see what it’s like but one “happy saint patty’s “ day would send me over the edge. That’s cool that you head to the club finals. Tell me this . Where would you drink after it? Around the stadium or would you head south side?

Normally move around the north side pubs for a while. Do a bit of street drinking in temple bar and chat to the tourists. Up around Harcourt street for the night is how it usually ends up. Could be in a bad way at that stage though.

Lol cast away thy hangovers and replace them with some maturity

I won't be venturing out atall. Dublin is like an open-air asylum.

That's where the fun is.

he says from the safety and calm of a hospital bed;)

Ah stop. If I leave now I can still make it into coppers. I'd be out for the three days on a normal year. 😭😭

There are safer Syrian villages . The boardwalk is a nightmare.

You're not wrong. No one goes near the boardwalk except skangers and unsuspecting tourists.

Yeah the poor tourists!! 😱😱riddled with junkies

Happy St Patrick's Day Blanchy! 🍀🍺

Thanks @erikah. I think saint Patrick is famous for getting rid of snakes out of Ireland. We have none here. I was hoping he got rid of the grapefruits also but they snuck back in 😀😀👀👀

😁 You need to learn to love grapefruits, it's good for your health 😂

If you were here you could go watch them dye the Chicago River green!

Wonder how much that costs? Madness

It takes 40 pounds of vegetable dye and is privately funded so there really are no estimates available on the costs image. The local plumbers Union has been in charge of the project for a long time.

That’s cool actually! Hmmm privately funded . It’s not as if an Irish guys made it policticslly over there ! We even claimed O Bama ! 😂😂👀👀
