We have fire!!
We had a quiet day today, a few appointments to get to, and this....
We now have a nice warm fire in our living room, just in time for the cold weather, when it decides to arrive. It took a bit of work for the installers to get in, becuase in typical fashion, when the MJs want something done, the job needs something extra done.
This job needed some wiring to be moved, and one of the roofing beams to be cut and reinforced to mke way for the flu (chimney).
Once done, doesn't it look good!!
A few minor adjustments, and it was time to cure the paint. 2 Small fires burning for about 20 minutes each, with about an hour between burns to let the firebox cool. This helps to temper, or harden the paint, which will give the fireplace a longer life.
Now that it's all done, we're in business!

It's really nice. I had to go out, but when I came back the house was nice and warm, and it was quite relaxing tonsit and watch the fire with a glass of wine in one hand.

I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the idea of having a fireplace is so weird...The temperature is never below 15ºC, in winter. On the other way, air conditioning is a must.
We get quite a range if temperatures here, from sometimes around 40ºC in summer, all the way down to 0ºC, and lower in some areas. We run aircon in summer, and the heater in winter, so the fireplace will hopefully help keep our electricity bill down by not running the heater as much.
Nice! There is nothing better than a warm fire to take the chill off the winter air! Toasting marshmallows is an added bonus!
I'm sure the toasting marshmellows will come soon. It's really nice to sit and watch the fire too. Beats most things on TV these days....
