Hey everyone!
Today, I'm reviewing an amber ale/red ale called Hoppy Joe from the brewery Lervig. Malts in this beer: pilsner malt, pale malt, caramel malt and roasted malt. Hops: perle, simcoe, chinook and nelson sauvin.
Description of the beer: "Brewed with Simcoe, Chinook and Nelson Sauvin hops, the caramel and chocolate malts complement piney, tropical fruit and citrus flavors and aroma. At 40IBU, this beer is not overly bitter, and the finish is a grapey/wine note from the Nelson Sauvin hops. "

- The brewery was founded in 2003 in Stavanger, Norway.
- From 2003 to 2005 the beer was produced by Macks Ølbryggeri in Tromsø.
- In 2010 the brewery hired the American Mike Murphy as their head brewer, and started brewing craft beers.
- Lervig was on RateBeer's list of the Top 100 brewers in the world in 2014.
- They export a third of their beers to the foreign market.

Appearance: hazy dark amber color, with a medium white head.
Smell: caramel, tropical fruit, citrus.
Mouthfeel: medium body, medium carbonation.
Taste: tastes the same as aroma + unique salty touch. Quite hoppy bitter finish.
Verdict: Wow! What else can I say. I have always liked amber style beers and this one was really something special. Definitely one of the best amber beers I have ever tried. What makes it so special? The salty taste in the background, it fits so well to this beer style. I wonder if they have added some salt in the brew? Or is it the hops? Or just my taste buds gone crazy?
Anyhow, if you ever have an opportunity to try this beer, do it! My rating 4.75 out of 5.
