Inception Week 7 - Unlearning the learned
Last week I mentioned that I had received some swimming tips from a gentleman I met who shared the same swimming lane as me. This week I tried to apply his advice to my technique.
I've never had any formal training with regards to swimming. I just figured it out myself. As expected, I have developed my own bad habits over the years. Trying to apply my mentor's advise required me to really focus in on what I was doing. I could feel the benefit, but I could also feel my muscle memory trying to revert to its old ways.
It's going to take a couple weeks to learn these new skills, but in the long run, it's going to be to my benefit.
With regards to my running, I tried a method this week where I did sprint/walk sets over a fairly short distance. I would run at max speed until failure then walk until recovered, then repeat.
It was really body intensive and I felt the pain the next day, but I feel like combining just one of these workouts into my weekly routine can have some benefits.
So here is a summary of my achievements for the week:
Running
1.54 KM @ 8m43s
4KM @ 27m35s
Swimming
500M Freestyle (100M the 50M intervals)
In conclusion
If you want to know what I am on about go check out my first post here A really great moment for me this week was hitting the 4KM mark. If I think back to where I started 7 weeks ago it's quite inspiring, yet I still have far to go. Nothing to celebrate yet. Onwards and forwards.
