Touching Our Roots
Today we took a visit to our family farm in northern Missouri. This was my grandfather's land, and his father's land and now it's my father's land.
This week has been all about getting in touch with our roots. Visiting family, visiting friends, and touring our properties.
I have been thinking a lot about the importance of roots..... the deeper our roots, the taller we can stand, same as the trees. I used to think my roots were not important, but now..... I think differently.
I see how our roots shape us and impact our entire future. There is wisdom in the past, experience in our elders, lessons we cannot learn alone.
I used to walk this earth feeling very alone, I had pulled up my roots and began to roam. It was fun and exciting and a lot of fun, but I felt completely ungrounded and suddenly found myself reflecting on how many times I could have used the advice of my elders.
So here I am. Replanting. Sinking in, trying to figure out how to start standing taller once again.
I appreciate your post. My family and I are at a place in life where we left a city that had become home. Since returning back to the US, I have been a little bit slow in replanting/sinking in.
I want to be fully committed to whatever is in front of my eyes at the moment. I want to stand tall.
Great photos. the 3rd and 4th are my favorites. Those little eyes looking towards us and then looking away speak a lot.
Nice work.........Just amazing
well done
@sumatranate thanks for the heartfelt comment... where were you before? Sometimes sinking in can be hard....
My wife and I moved to Indonesia in 2005. We returned back to the US in 2017 with 5 little ladies. We had made other trips back "home" before, but this one was a scheduled one-way. We currently live in SW MO.
