The Power of Service
Reading: (Philippians 2: 5,7) "... Christ Jesus (...) emptied himself, taking the form of a servant ...”
"Money is power". This principle moves most of the cultures of the world. People fight to obtain riches; often, putting personal integrity at risk to live where and how they want and have what they want.
In a culture that loves money, believers in Jesus Christ are in danger of doing the same. Some use it to control their families, or they may threaten to stop offering to the church if they do not do what they want.
How different from Jesus! He had power over diseases and used it to heal the sick. He had dominion over the sea and used it to remove fear. He had the capacity to create and feed thousands. He had power over sin and forgave the sinner. He exercised control over his own life, but gave it voluntarily to save everyone who believes in Him (John 3:16).
Jesus had all the power but he used it to serve others.
In the upper room, the disciples call him LORD; however, there he was only a servant (John 13: 2-17). He washed their feet! When Peter protested, Jesus answered: "If I do not wash you, you will have no part with me" (v. 8).
Instead of using money or anything else for selfish ends, use it to serve others. This is the correct way to exercise power.
The more we serve Christ, the less we serve the self.
