Graham Hancock is an extremely talented writer and free thinker who has unconventional theories involving ancient civilisations, monuments/megaliths, altered states of consciousness and mythology.
Hancock began his career as a journalist, but while in Ethiopia during the early 90s he stumbled across an alternate theory about the Ark of the Covenant, and being a journalist, decided to investigate the story further. This led Hancock into his career of investigating the past, approaching everything with fresh eyes untainted by being 'taught history' in a classroom.
His theories are not accepted by mainstream academia and haven't been peer-reviewed; even though more evidence keeps being discovered which leans more towards his controversial theories. Evidence like the water erosion on the Sphinx indicating that its actually over 10,000 years old, or evidence like Göbekli Tepe, an ancient site in Turkey that dates back over 11,500 years. Examples like these, and many more, are rewriting our textbooks and this is why I tend to believe that Hancock maybe onto something.

I'd highly recommend reading 'Fingerprints of the Gods', which sets out his main thesis, and then later reading 'Magicians of the Gods', which provides evidence towards his theory. I'd also highly recommend reading 'Supernatural' and 'The Devine Spark' -books confronting the problem with consciousness and our understanding of it.

I'd also recommend checking out his banned TedX talk below; 'The war on consciousness' as its a great eye-opener that reflects on the backwards thinking in the west.
