Mathematics Of The Poor Unwanted Kittens

My family seems to be outraged that many people in the countryside don’t tolerate unwanted kittens, and unfortunately, they are often killed. Especially if the mother is a street child or was born unwanted and she herself is barely tolerated as well.

I know it’s a difficult issue and the best solution would be to spay or neuter kittens in time, which in some villages costs a fortune because of the large number of cats. And the strays can't even be grabbed, in some places you don't even know how many cats are wandering through the orchards and parks.

Poor little birds?

Then the ornithologists also argue, or the friends of the birds, for example. I don't feel strong enough to clarify all the moral aspects of the problem, but I would like to say something - about the mathematics of kitten reproduction.

According to sources such as Gestaciónde or Notigatos a cat can have between 3 and 12 offspring in a litter, and can give birth up to twice a year. Younger kittens have fewer, older cats have more young.

Two will make seven

Let's calculate with only one litter a year and five offspring in a litter, which seems like a conservative estimate. In this case, after one year, we have seven cats instead of two: the two parents and five offspring. After two years, the couple has another 5, so in total they already have 10 children. But the first kittens also have their first litter, let's estimate 12.5 kittens (because if every couple has 5, then each one has an average of 2.5).

Seven will make 24.5.

Thus the number of cats, after two years will be, theoretically, 24.5: The 2 grandparents + the 5 first offspring + the 5 new offspring of the grandparents + the 12.5 offspring of the offspring... Thus, after 10 years, according to mathematics, the number of kittens would reach 551 709.5 (more than half a million). In 12 years, up to 6,758,441 - almost 7 million!

Millions of kittens

Don't you think? If two make seven, then after seven, 24.5, that means the number multiplies by three and a half every year, right? (+250 percent.) 2x3.5x3.5=24.5. Multiplying it again by 3.5 equals 85.75. And what is 2x3.5x3.5x3.5x3.5x3.5x3.5? (five years)? 1050, over a thousand.
No, I don't mean you have to hurt cats, on the contrary. In practice, many kittens die early, or live in isolation and do not have children, or are sterilized etc., so the situation will not be so serious as it seems to be on the spreadsheet. But yes, we need some birth control. Of course it must be based on prevention, on human methods.

Cat Island

On an island in Japan, Aoshima, also known as "Cat Island", are living 10 times more cats than human inhabitants. (See photo at the beginning.) Supposedly the inhabitants think that cats bring them luck and would not hurt them. But it is also true that the human population has gradually decreased from 900, to 13 people in the last 70 years. So, it's not the high number of cats, but the lack of owners.

Now there are 130 cats on the island but people are also talking about their neutering, for lack of human citizens.

How do these people live with this tremendous number of cats? @deathcross this is the first place I have seen with the highest number of cats.

They should be neutered if someone is petting them, even if u have one . never abandon them to die. Check out my last post if u want of the cat that was found crying :(

I love cats!
I see that you have something to love! ;)

Nice post
