To Post or Not to Post? That is the Question - Video Response to liveyourdream

in #life6 years ago (edited)

I saw this one video by @liveyourdream and I found it extremely thought-provoking and engaging. So much so that I just couldn't contain my thoughts in the comments so I let him know that I was making a video response to the topic.

Here's a link to the original video if you want to watch that as well: https://steemit.com/dtube/@liveyourdream/y5d3v4kd

The question is "To Post Multiple Times per day or to Not Post Multiple Times per day?" I think what my brotha @liveyourdream was alluding to was someone gaming the system by posting previously made videos for other platforms on @dtube to try and earn upvotes. While on one end, there's a part of me that agrees 100% and would appreciate it if there was original content coming onto the platform, the other side of me is just really glad others are taking notice and coming along. I believe it's great to see more people come into the platform and show us some experience and if they choose to upload their old videos, the community and at the moment @dtube will have to be the judge of that - we'll trust their judgement call.

On a similar topic, I believe that if someone is putting in the time, effort and resources to create original content for @dtube and steemit exclusively, to each his own. I personally post multiple times per day. I do it because I love it and have a lot to share. It does take a lot of time to create a video, have re-takes, edit it, export it, make a thumbnail, upload and then create a blog commentary - but I enjoy it and as long as 1 person out there finds it useful or gains from it or improves their lives from the content, I'll do my best to keep up with the pace. Once again, I guess the community will be the judge of that. I love making videos (more than I do writing - although I do enjoy writing as well which is why I'm commenting on the descriptions a bit more nowadays) so most of my post will be on @DTube. Just like some video creators on YouTube some of them post exclusively on YouTube and don't do blogs. I believe that's okay. In the same way that some bloggers just write and rarely do videos.

In any case, ultimately, the community will decide, @dtube will use their good judgement for what's best for the platform and in the end - all things will work out. I do enjoy these types of discussion because I believe they allow for greater brainstorming and a mesh of ideas into the DTUBE POOL so let's keep it going!

Thanks again @liveyourdream for your insights and honest thoughts. I appreciate it

Thanks again to @dtube for making this all happen and allowing for free discussion to take place!

Peace out guys! Have a great day :)

Great post

Thanks my brotha! You got my upvote

Wow! I really don‘t know where to start now...

Okay, so I had this topic about huge YouTubers coming over to DTube at some point already within comments and our Discord as well.
There may be some fear about YouTubers coming over here, dumping their old stuff and of course there‘s this other topic about “competition” getting harder with every new creator on DTube.
You said that you believe there will be still enough of the DTube upvote cake for everyone did I get you right? How would you justify that?
Because I don‘t believe there will be enough. But I have no problem with that. That‘s why my long term plan is not to be dependent on DTube upvotes forever but to build my own community.
On the other side I already said as well just like you that DTube in some way has to upvote huge YouTubers on DTube to make them see that it‘s profitable and motivate them to stay here and I completely agree with that.
To come back to the question about posting multiple times a day, in the end it‘s just like you said. The community will decide but it‘s great to see that a discussion about a critical topic like this can still be made on a such friendly and objective level.
To be honest I already lost hope a long time ago that people on the internet can still discuss without flaming or shitstorming others because of having a different opinion.
You have my highest respect for being a person creating multiple times a day and reacting this way to my video.
In Germany we say “The tone / sound makes the music”. Do you say that in English as well? If not I hope you get the idea.

Cheers, bro!

Whoa! I'm going to have to make another video response just to this comment! haha jk :D

Hey brotha, thanks so much again for your deep insights. I love that German term! I studied film with this German girl in New York. She was such a positive spirit and she would always handle her critics with such grace. Something I really admired. "The Tone makes the music." << LOVE IT

To get to the point & answer your question, DTube's upvote mechanism is always recharging. I personally don't think we should see those votes as something that's entitled to us just because we are on DTubers. That's my personal opinion. Nobody is entitled to them. At the moment, @Dtube will decide and we'll just have to trust that for now because we're still in the growing stages and I guess this is part of the growing pains.

Maybe the payouts are going to become less, but the steem price is going to rise overtime and if we truly believe in this platform, then we need not fear. It's also something completely out of our control. I think creators should focus on things they can control. They can't control upvotes, but they can control their own content and their own emotions.

I've been in several start-ups now and worked all over Asia, Europe and the America's. One thing I've always tried to do is create competition. But I only compete with one person. That person is me from yesterday. If I'm better today than me yesterday, that's all that matters. There will always be enough for everyone. There is always a lack for those who believe there is a lack. When you focus on lack, you focus on things you cannot control - it's external. When the focus is self-improvement (in this game, improving your content, adding value, etc) then that is something you can control. It is internal.

I'm actually just about to post a video on that that I made. LOL

Anyhow, those are my two cents. I love the discussion and again, I believe that iron sharpens iron and it will only sharpen the platform :D thank you for sharing your genius with us :)

One love, bro #respect

Upvoted for your brilliance.

To me the issue of multiple posting of old content depends on the nature of content. If the content is news oriented, old posting makes little sense. If content is biographical or artistic in nature it then has a Timeless quality that makes sense to repost both historically and value interest to the viewer / reader. It would seem unfortunate if the limitations on posting what are increased. It seems to me that overtime the platforms that will succeed best will be the ones that have the fewest limitations. I know that we live in a world where control of information is power. But the power of distributed Ledger Technologies is to decentralize and democratize the free flow of information recording it's journey and destination, and so I'm inclined to think that over time more and more information will become available two more and more people and the interaction with that information is what will be paid for that is it is the attention that is valuable.

This comment is so valuable and eye opening. You're getting all my upvotes. I'm not even going to reply. I'm just going to say "Okay. You're right."

Thanks for bringing your awesome insights, my friend!!!! #loveit

Thanks so much for your comment it means a lot to get reply to especially for those of us with minnow status and long pasts ☺️

You're very welcome sir :) just gave you another upvote! I hope to hear more from you! Loving the insights :)

Now you're making me blush LOL but I do think it's an important topic and I'm glad that you are covering it thank you!

And I might add of an educational nature

really good!!

I appreciate your post. I think even if someone is posting old videos even, they should be given a chance because they might be doing so to sustain here .

Appreciate your opinion, my friend :)

For your honesty, you get my upvote.

Nice post and idea

Me likey.

Upvoted. Thanks for stopping by!

Porting your old content from another platform must be seen as a visibility move! Otherwise people looking at entering the space may be scared off by the volatility that can arise over silly confrontations, sometimes something as simple as flagging for not having anything on your twitter feed suggesting steemit 🤦‍♂️ people will assume identity theft.

Meanwhile posting older content for visibility it must be done in a way that present it as such so no one is mislead and like wise must be accompanied by something new or even just daily blog updates as new content. Then when you get to the place of uploading something spectaculor you should have a following that respects your work and your time wont feel waisted.

Seems like time and persistence here do better then a raging start, meaning pace yourself till you have a name or your previous following has joined the team aswell!

Hello my original brotha!!! Always a pleasure to hear from you. That makes perfect sense. Thanks for those insights - didn't think of the fact that some people could be testing out the platform to see if they can stand/survive it's volatility. Spot on!

If all I can do is be original I am here to inspire, just remember to drag me up with you brother! One day you will have your own little or not so little community and I highly suggest looking at all the options to gain benefits and return benefits to those that support you!

  • witness
  • delegations
  • staff? Through delegations?
  • curation trail

Most options are a lot of work, but partnering with someone could very well eliminate your personal duties.... be the face of the content think of it like phillyd! I am still researching the different avenues for revenue on steemit and it keep coming back to community support/delegations/bots as the easiest. I don’t like bots but they may be necessary for certain functions.

I don’t know what you life is like outside your posts but streamlined efforts could still work within your current time constraints with doing your own editing.

Inspire inspire inspire 😊

Yes my brotha! We’re going all the way and you’re coming with me! Let’s do it together! Make sure to check out @altcoinpost @dlife and @phototutorials too for different topics.

Can you believe it’s been 2 weeks now? This journey has been killer. Thanks for being one of my first friends and followers on here and journeying with me my brotha.

Check this out

Let’s do this! Upvoted you again.

@dnews on it!
hey check out my first.... lol .... I'm kinda embarrassed but w/e here we go

My friend @lunaticpandora said something similar yestetday, to not let my dreams be dreams and to just POST my first vlog... So I did! It was goofy and awkward but I have to start somewhere right?
If I had the time and skill I would probably post all day too, I love it! Haven't been here on Steemit long, and brand new to dtube, but having so much fun :) I hope to get better, start editing and making my vlogs really appealing to the eye as well as informative and engaging... and relevant, definitely gotta work on staying relevent go the topic I'm trying to discuss, hahaha

Hey @amymya! Cool! Thanks for letting me know! Are you from Canada? Keep it up girl!

You get an upvote of passion!

Thank you!
Yes I am from Canada! I am quite passionate, about a lot if things haha. We can only improve and help things grow if we feel strongly about them right? I'm learning and growing everyday, and I hope to share knowledge with others and maybe even inspire them too!
Thank you for taking the time to reply :)

Brilliant! I'm in Canada too! East side! You?

You get another upvote for being inspirational!

reposting old videos... shouldn't be a problem, providing they are adding some value, or teaching someone something. new videos...GREAT! but by the same token, they should also be giving the viewer something, even if purely entertainment or enjoyment. I'm not good at videos, but I hope to improve on that, as too posting a few times a day, I do, because I just love to write.

These are all brilliant points. Thanks so much for bringing them into the spotlight! I actually agree that old videos are okay if they add value to the platform. Some people are already doing it and I don't have qualms with it. It'd be nice also if they're making original content and updated content as well, but to each his own :)

I'll be checking out your writings, my friend! Here's an upvote of friendship for you :D
