On what have you based your future?

You do not know about tomorrow. What is your life like? For you are a puff of smoke that appears for a short time and then vanishes

James 4:13-14 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into this or that town and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.”

Caution. That's how the writer calls on those who seem to be so lost in their plans. Talk and thoughts of self and business. More dreams and attention paid to what's yet to be. So much certainty colors their assumptions and the future seems under their control.

Wait a minute. Planning is good and dreaming is great. But the trust we place on our processes tends to shift focus from the one true source- God. The titanic sank. Fortified cities have fallen. The men who other men worship fall and return to dust like they never existed. All so we will know man at best is still just a man, not God.
