Here are Dragons Part #2

Meditation draws from the real world and loses contact with reality. Here is a glimpse of pseudo-truth. Some people use meditation and spirituality as an excuse to escape from reality. That only works if, instead of doing disciplined meditation exercises, they try to distance themselves. If one meditates properly, one has more and more contact with reality, and not the other way around.

Everything in life can be a spiritual exercise. That is to say, to carry out our work, to keep the house clean, to pay the bills, to fulfill the obligations to ourselves and others, to be useful, to experience joy, pain and other sensations, is part of the spiritual exercise of each one.

Everyday life is not separated from spirituality, and people who wield their spiritual growth as an excuse to avoid responsibility, hinder their spiritual evolution. Whoever tries to run away from reality can do so with something that calls meditation, but it is unlikely that it is with any of the simple, although demanding techniques, that are usually followed by people who do not seek a way to escape from real life.

Meditation is a valuable tool because it helps to do many practical things. Like all other tools, think of everything you can do with a hammer. It can be used constructively and destructively. As we saw in the previous post, many side effects of meditation (greater concentration, stress reduction, better self-discipline) are obviously very useful, so many people meditate on these practical effects and not for spiritual reasons.

Meditation creates a hypnotic state, from which it is possible that afterwards we can not recover. This is pure superstition. First of all, as connoisseurs in hypnosis know, because if you are in a hypnotic trance and nobody wakes you up, you are plunged into a deep sleep, from which you awaken when you are rested. Second, meditation is not hypnosis. They are two altered states of consciousness, but the same can be said of dream and daydreaming, and nobody suggests that they are hypnosis. Few think they are dangerous. This reflects not only an ignorance about what meditation is, but also a lack of knowledge about hypnosis.

Meditation can release forces that we do not understand, which can be dangerous. More superstition, closely related to the previous one. Many people are afraid of the mysterious power of the mind. They believe that human sanity is fragile. Many people project into others what we fear in ourselves, and that leads us to worry about their control of the judgment. Undoubtedly the mind is a wonderful instrument, capable of doing amazing things, some of which can be very unpleasant, even frightening. However, meditation favors more stability than instability, health than disease.

Meditation is the work of the devil. If someone says that, there is no point in discussing it. There is no reasoning to refute that kind of expression, it is an article of faith. It is not based on logic, but is probably based on fear. People who say things like that usually do not know what meditation is, and they do not want to know it either. He has strict rules of life and believes that any deviation from these rules will cause God to punish them and for the devil to reach them.

We must realize that such a response is irrational, this force of reason. If a person tries to change through logic the irrational point of view of another, nevertheless, it takes us to the interesting topic of religion and meditation.

The meditation is only for religious people and I am not. A common misconception about meditation is the belief that it is just a religious exercise. There are followers of almost all the religions that practice it, but it is not, basically, a religious activity. In fact, as I have already mentioned, now many businessmen begin to practice it, without being religious, they have discovered the practical value of mental exercises that favor health, mental clarity and a more relaxed attitude towards life.

This confusion is due, among other reasons, to that, according to Christian tradition, meditation is associated more with the fact of thinking about a particular aspect of religion. The type of exercise that is usually done in meditation was part, at the time, of contemplative practice, and was not called meditation. In any case, in the movement of oriental exercises especially from India to Europe and America, words are applied with different meanings and cause even greater confusion.

Meditation techniques are simple exercises, which have complex and beneficial effects on body and mind, and have nothing to do with religion or faith. Thus, the exercises are not religious in the sense that they are not part of any religion exclusively, but undoubtedly they are spiritual, like all aspects of life. Daily life is, in all its aspects and with the same intensity, a spiritual exercise, and in that context these techniques are spiritual exercises. They are also physical, emotional and mental exercises. They exercise the body, the mind and the spirit.

I was also wondering: do you require same amount of sleep, regardless if you do medidate or you dont?

Has practicado la meditación o conoces alguna técnica..??

Muchas gracias por visitar mi blog..
