Burn or Cross!

"Sometimes in life, the hardest thing to do is to know the bridge to burn and which to cross.- Bertrand Russell.

Often times I hear people use the phrase, "we will know what to do when we get to the bridge", and it is often made whenever there is a pending decision or some sorts of uncertainty hanging over what needs to be done. It is a tricky word you know because, we never truly get to any bridge in the physical sense, but it just means we are hoping to be able to make some good decisions when we find ourselves in that crossroad that may defile our strategies.
What exactly is a bridge??? A bridge is a structure that carries a road or path across a river, ditch, valley or other obstacles. In this context, it is what we build to get us from one level of comfort to another and when we look carefully at it, we should be able to determine, which should be crossed and which should be burnt.
Bridges are the access way we use between what seems like an open space to get to what is a walk-able road, (I think.) It is that pedestal that enables us to move from over the void that lays between us and the next platform we hope to step on. It is a also used as a word for building friendship and relationship..

I Feel Blessed!

I believe there are bridges that should be crossed, some that should be totally avoided and most that should be burnt to the ground. Building bridges is a good thing but by building, no one should be obligated to cross every bridge they see or built.
The minimal understanding I think this holds for me is that, when you are always expecting to cross every bridge or looking to have goodwill cross over that bridge for you, you are nowhere ready to live truly as a man. Brides are meant to be crossed or burnt.
I have built many bridges, burnt and crossed most and only able to learn now that, some where meant to be crossed and some burnt. I am looking now and I can see clearly that, there are bridges that needs burning and many more I needn't cross.

The bridge you are faced with may be one of friendship, addiction, urge, grudge, pain, joy, sorrow, expected gratification that has never been felt, hope, etc and it is normal to expect that they will be something that we should be happy about, it is also normal that we expect to either move over them or burn them. You must choose, Burn or Cross!
Burning bridges is more like picking and or dropping some habits that may or may not be healthy for you. There are those that come burdened with pain, blood, sweat, sorrow etc and there are those that come with joy, life, love laughter, wealth, health etc. Not all bridges bring peace.
Remember also, you must not burn the bridge that will lead you to your promised land. There are bridges to burn and there are those that you will cross, so choose carefully and make sure your decisions are made with eyes wide open and a heart ready to take the results of what follows after you burn or cross that bridge(s).

Make the world a better place for someone today!

Wise words! It takes wisdom to discern which bridges to cross and which to burn. I have in times past, burnt a few bridges that I should have crossed and learnt my lesson the hard way. Thanks for this insightful post sir.

Absolutely! There also comes a time when a bridge has to be burnt to protect yourself from what’s on the other side.. but remember not to burn all your bridges. You may need that bridge again in the future to get to where you need to be.

A lovely inspirational post with a lot to think about.... thank you so much cos this is really a food to me
