Equality

This post is going to be about a thoughtful breakfast. It was going to be a breakfast for one. I had already cooked some eggs and potatoes and was looking for just a little bit more protein. I saw in the fridge the last two breakfast sausage links and decided to throw them on the pan. I couldn't help but notice the shape: a rounded equals sign.

Equality. I let the thought sink in a little bit. It seemed like a familiar idealistic foreign concept. At one extreme... The thought that all human beings are equal. That every person should be valued equally. All humans are priceless. But if you look at our structure, it quickly becomes clear that some humans are valued more than others.

A small tweak and you land on one of historical note: "All [humans] are created equal." (The intent of the quote is to cover humanity, let's not quibble about the historical context too much). The emphasis here being that we all start out equal, with equal opportunities, but may end up very much in different places. However, it's also clear that equality of opportunity is not real. It very much depends on what environment you grow up in. In our global environment, this disparity is even more obvious as we read about the differences between quality of life around the world.

I suppose it's just a matter of opening access. The internet opened up access to more resources for a larger audience, and that's quite amazing on its own. Are Steem and other cryptocurrencies opening up access in the same way? Or is this not real?

I left the pan for a bit to make the coffee. You can't really overcook these things that easily anyway, as they come pre-cooked. After I came back I came back to some light popping noises. And that's when I saw it. The pieces were moving by itself. Rolling back and forth. I just had to capture the moment.
