Can Crypto Currency Really Work as a Payments Mechanism in the Long Run?

in #life5 years ago (edited)

Well, that's like asking if e-commerce can work with the Internet. It's an almost ridiculous question to ask. The two concepts go hand in hand and are mutually inclusive of each other. That's how I see it anyways. But the clarity with which I see this goes far beyond simply a strong opinion. To me, it is as clear as day...

It's baffling to think that a few decades ago, the world we lived in was nearly entirely analog. The letters we wrote and sent, the cars we drove, our systems of global and local retail. It was all run without the use of computers and working to a certain accepted standard of efficiency. In other words, we knew no better. The point I'm making is that the evolution of our species has so much to do with the digitization of our lifestyles. Pretty much everything has been given the "electronic" treatment, from the convenience of buying items with a credit card in a store to monitoring a patients health. We owe so much to the technology-driven leaps and bounds our civilization has enjoyed throughout the years. Although, ironically enough, there was one ancient relic that had somehow slipped past the radar but is now looking set to ultimately end up on the scrap heap. That last bastion being, the "digitization" of physical money.

Think about it. It's so damn clear. After all, the implementation alone would not be possible without the proper infrastructure in place. We'd need a globally compatible system of networks that allow for almost instantaneous communications for transacting with each other. Enter the "Internet" as your one-stop solution to this. Another problem would be getting people to adapt their mindset to a different way of paying for goods and service. Without the need to carry around wads of cash and bags of coins. Enter the age of the "plastic card" as a smart, convenient alternative. Again, in this period of our existential timeline and technological advancement, it simply makes sense that something like crypto currencies will be embraced by all. Undoubtedly, it's a system the world is moving towards.

And I reckon the first to benefit from this new form of financing will be in the least likely regions of the world. The poorest nations. It's easy for us to bask in our lives of relative comfort, whilst we take our pleasant "lifestyle structures" for granted. A bank account, supermarkets, transport, a stable government. It's all part and parcel of encasing us all in a shallow bubble of bliss. In contrast, imagine if every waking morning was a test of ones survival to find your next meal or provide support for a family in the bleakest of conditions. Therefore having access to an unrestricted, portable virtual bank account would be like owning a veritable gold mine. The countries that will benefit most will be those considered hidden and discarded from more developed nations. Because at bad as things get there, they'll still have a connection to the Internet. That one small vein spreading through into the arteries of the internet. Paving the way for international business, locally traded resources as well as so much more besides. The potential opportunities created are near limitless.

So yeah, I do believe in crypto currencies and know they will go on to form a huge part in the furtherment of humanity as a whole. And for those thinking that governments may prove it's undoing? Well, good luck to them in pressing the reset switch on the Internet itself. Because that's what it will take. Ultimately the power is not their hands anymore, but the people themselves. Main example being the proposed banning of crypto in China a little while back. Remedy? Miners move operations to neighbouring Korea or Japan. They will always be a way out hence every country will have to bow to peer pressure and figure out a way to work "with" the people. Not "against".

Yes, guys. There's a lot to look forward to. So hurry up and bring on the era I've been waiting for all my life... :)

Absolutely agree! There will be challenges as those that control the existing infrastructure will resist the change or even try to control it but the seed has been planted already and will be difficult to slow down and much less stop.
