Notes from our guests - I - 2018/11/26 14:57:09

What a weekend!

Mostly in my happy space the kitchen. The weekend was made all the more memorable by a surprise visit from long-time friend, former colleague and associate who happened in the village. And we hosted friends we rarely see – face-to-face – in the area to shoot a wedding, and who, on deciding to overnight in our Little Room @ The Sandbag House, also decided that they’d stay for Sunday Supper.

Delighted when the decision was made, I asked what they might like on the menu. “Gammon, “ was the riposte. Followed by an “But it doesn’t really matter – all your food is fabulous!” Of course, not one to pass up a challenge, I also realised that the weekend coincided with two significant international dates – St Andrew’s day, and Thanksgiving – St Andrew is Scotland’s patron saint. So the menu was a nod to both Scotland, America and that special request.

The diners, other than our guests, included an American from Colorado who, with his Swedish wife are swallows, spending their summers in the village; she, not only is a graduate of St Andrews, but can boast having played golf on all of the St Andrew’s courses. Their guests include two more Swedes and a Dane. Our other diners, in addition to our house guests, included villagers, one of whom is a also well-travelled and fascinating English woman who spent ten years living in Las Vegas.

Not only do I enjoy the planning, cooking and feeding process, but I do enjoy the notes that your guests leave for us. Especially this “My first real African Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie – even better than I remembered!” Here is a selection of pictures from the evening. Oh that sounds lovely! To get nice little notes of encouragement like that would be wonderful. Your food sound wonderful as well.

Wow! What a gorgeous table you set! I was just discussing with some friends this week about how so few of us ever really 'set the table' anymore. You're an inspiration!

Very kind, @byn. I really get a kick - since I was a little girl - ot of setting pretty tables. I admit that during the week our suppers are in front of the TV, but breakfast and lunch are at the table. One of the perks of both of us working from home - and being a bit old fartish! Lol

Awesome feedback and you really know how to make your guests feel welcome! I could do with a roast dinner now, it's SO cold in the office, need to warm up a lot (and I have 3 layers on!!)

Happily, cool and rainy here today, too. Have my slippers on! Yes, great feedback, makes it all worth it. Do look me up if you're ever in South Africa!

Well there are a few of you SA folk on steemit and I have a friend that lives there too in Port Elizabeth so could be a SA Steemit meet up in the future 😀

There are, indeed, a few of us #teamsouthafrica folk. A @steemit meet-up and a #steemitbloggers meet-up in South Africa - a fabulous idea

That would be cool to see! Make it happen 😀

Well, let's see. I will consult with @jaynie and the #teamsouthafrica bunch. You never know.

You should and share a cheeky blog vlog or 2 😀 bit of a trek for me being from the UK and all but there may be UK steemeets being arranged...

It all looked so quaint
Loved it
And that hand written note
Gave me a warm fuzzy feeling
Thank you for sharing this with us :)

and thank you for stopping by, @kaerpediem

Lovely feedback you got :) And you deserved it for cooking so many different things! I hope you won't mind asking.. is this your hobby or do you do it as business?

Thank you @delishtreats. In answer to your question, it's a bit of both. I like to cook and feed people. I like messing about with flavours - I am entirely self-taught. A cook. Not a chef. The little money that comes in doesn't go amiss - and, truth be told, we need every penny.

That makes it all worth it. To get that kind of feedback and to give them and yourselves such a wonderful memory.

Thank you so much!

You mentioned that a couple of your guests are swallows. We have snowbirds here - people who live in the North but go south for the Winter months. Can you define a swallow for me?

#steemitbloggers

Your snowbirds do exactly as our swallows do, but in reverse. They come south for summer - from Europe - and head back north for summer there :D
