Importance Of Road Safety Awareness

in #life6 years ago

India is a really big, diverse and a little crazy place. The traffic as most S.E. Asian countries is ridiculously chaotic for anyone who's new to the whole scenario. Heck, 30 years down I still can't digest the fact that we need to drive defensively all the time, every single day we're out on the roads in our vehicles.

Motoring related fatal injuries injuries are very high and help is often not available. I went through a terrible crash myself last year due to the mistake of another road user and have experienced several issues in getting medical aid in terms of adequate emergency response.

Most people give little to no thought about their personal safety or the safety of other road users. We learn it the hard way sometimes, when no matter what riding gear you wear on a motorcycle or type of car you are driving, the crashes lead to serious injuries.

But, all facts considered many still ignore the basic riding gear such as a helmet and that's very common. Over a decade ago it wasn't surprising to see someone ride without a helmet as people were unaware and riding gear was expensive. Today, most people purchase premium motorcycles but won't spend even 5% of the cost on protective wear.

Motoring is far more dangerous on a motorcycle than it is in a car. You are certainly more prone to risk if you are on the roads in busy streets of India.

My buddy @varunpinto has written about the most recent road safety awareness event (from the poster). Our motorcycle club 'United Bikers of Mangalore' supported the local chapter of a pan-India women's motorcycle club called Bikernis. @heelsonwheels heads the local chapter known as the Mangalore Bikernis. You can read about that here and learn more about the safety awareness drive conducted in our city.,

People are often unwilling to change their attitude towards safe riding and driving. It takes a lot of effort to get someone to change their ways where they can improve the longevity of their lives.

It's vital that we inform our family and friends to take precautions when we are out on the streets. There are several dangers when you are moving fast down the road and many times the situation is out of our control.

So please take care when you are on the saddle or behind the wheel.

It is getting more dangerous. I live in NW Washington state and not one day goes by that someone doesn't pull out in front of you, whether on my bike or in my car. I'm starting to get this knee jerk reaction and I asked my wife if I am overacting. She's getting spooked too. I guess it's everywhere. We all need to ride/drive like they are going to cut you off or pull out in front of you. The thing that I see a lot of up here is cars on side roads coming to a stop getting ready to pull out on the main road, and then they start rolling forward. You can't second guess if they are really pulling out in front of you or not!

Thank you

Its very important to be safety cautious especial when you are on a busy road

It is a completely different culture when it comes to riding. I often see photos of people on motorcycles wearing flip flops and shorts. If you did that here in the U.S. other riders would look at you like you are crazy.

While I was serving in the military they made it mandatory that we wear full gear: helmet, gloves, jacket, pants, close toed shoes, and even a reflective vest for better visibility to other vehicles. Good on you for trying to make a positive change that will benefit everyone.

It is difficult when a country does not meet the traffic regulations. It does not invest in road education.

Always wear something reflective or a flashlight on you at dark times when you walking next to a road.

Sometimes it seems like people aim for motorcyclists. A nice way to ride, but defensive driving is a must. Great post. 🐓🐓

great and relevant post, @firepower !

Germany is somewhat okay when it comes to this topic. I heard that it is terrible in Greece, though. Never been there, but some videos I have seen of what is supposed to be everyday to day life there were quite irritating to watch.
