Hurricanes

There are a variety of Youtube videos whose main topic is that Hurricane Michael was an orchestrated event to achieve some unknown purpose. One of these purposes is that the hurricane was aimed at attacking and destroying the Air Force base that is situated close to Mexico Beach. That would be wasting a lot of power just to destroy one base among many. If these guys can create hurricanes they can probably create some sort of destruction beam at least I think that would be cheaper and less time consuming than creating a hurricane.

Frankly this idea to me is really far fetched, this is one I really think is really out there crazy wise, and the thing is these Youtube guys are not even close to being the first to write about this, I remember the Cuban government blaming the US when it was struck by several consecutive hurricanes. Could it be that the answer is really that hurricanes are random, and they probably follow the course they do because of weather patterns?

I have lived through three hurricanes, the first one Hattie in 1961 I was just a few weeks old, it was a Cat 4 when it landed and it killed according to Belize government figures, about 300 people. My mother told me she put me in a drawer in her dresser and that's where I spent most of the storm.

Then I went through Fifi which was a Cat 2 and it struck the north coast of Honduras, I lived on the island of Utila then, I was 13 and remember it vividly, it hit the island at full force, it sounded like hundreds of trains outside then the eye hit and after that winds returned from another direction, Over 8,000 people died, none on Utila, most of the houses there were built of wood, and only 13 were destroyed of these 12 were uninhabited really old mostly rotted houses, the other one was a new house not yet finished. I do remember a shrimp boat was trying to ride the storm and anchored in the small harbour, this boat was sent about a quarter of a mile inland, it was insured by a US company and they sent an agent down to assess the damages and he said it was cheaper to just buy a new boat instead of having to see how to move it back to the sea.

And finally there was Mitch in 1998, a Cat 5 when it hit Guanaja island and stayed there for 3-4 days without any noticeable movement, all vegetation on the island was destroyed but only one village was wiped out, the others had damaged houses but not what you would expect from a Cat 5. Eventually the hurricane moved inland and the rain was the problem, where I live in La Ceiba we never got more than 60 Mph winds, but all the bridges that connect us with the rest of the country were destroyed. This hurricane claimed over 10,000 lives.

So I know more or less what a hurricane can do, yes it can destroy ten house in one city block and leave one standing, it can send cars flying and leave others untouched, these are from wind effects. Water is the main problem and I mean the rain not the storm surge, rivers just overflow in minutes and the flash floods are killers, then you have vast areas flooded and that is where most people die.

I think what we are seeing on Youtube and others coming up with conspiracy theories is people who want to say that climate change is not real and that it is humans who are behind these crazy weather events. Funny you know they admit humans are responsible for climate change to show us that humans are not responsible for climate change.

Now, I don't believe climate change is caused by humans, at least not entirely but we sure are responsible for the destruction and loss of life these events cause, mainly by living and building in places where these weather events are most likely to happen. If we were more responsible perhaps these events would not cause as much damage.
