I Won! - August 13, 2019 @goldenoakfarm
East side finished, outside (don’t look inside….)
Tuesday morning, after I got the kitchen cleaned and ready for butter making (by my helper friend) I went out to the Big garden and resumed my trek around the perimeter at 6AM.
North perimeter finished….
Thunderstorms were predicted for 11AM, so I was bound and determined to finish first! With my husband helping by emptying sleds as needed, I was able to get it done just as the first sprinkles started.

I noticed my Anne raspberry had a second crop of berries. The chipmunk that lives under the front steps got the entire first crop. I got 1 berry. I’m hoping with a giant hole between his home and my bushes I might just get 2 this time….
In front of this berry I found turkey tracks and turket tracks. Not sure how many turkets are left, but as we’d not seen any for while, it’s good to know there are some left.
The hibiscus has been flowering for a while now, but is getting really lovely with so many blooms.
I was just telling @owasco that I’ve gotten exactly 3 photos of white flowers that were any good. Today I got my fourth one!
So while we waited for the thunderstorms to appear, we decided to go shopping for cellar windows and exterior doors. Also on the list (what list?) were floor electric outlets and we also looked at formica.
This formica was called Jeweled Coral, and it has beautiful copper highlights
We found the window we wanted, an Anderson sliding window with a screen, fully removable glass and screen. It’s tax free weekend this Saturday and Sunday here in Mass. and we made an order for these windows. Did not find any doors we liked. But we have until Saturday to see if we can find some, and then we’ll order them on Saturday. We did find the formica we like.
And we spent an hour talking to the kitchen designer about kitchens and life. We made an appointment with her for next Tuesday afternoon to try to figure out cabinets.
My husband found this event online Tuesday afternoon, and I think we will go.

So 1 week to a nice concert locally. We plan to bring a picnic, but may have to eat it in the car, as no food or drink allowed inside.
Here’s some of the hens and one of the roosters, the one that crows so much. It was still dark when he started this morning, and only just barely lightening out there now at 5:30AM. He’s going strong… You can see his reverse coloring vs the hens’ normal coloring.
He’s still young, just 15 weeks, so hasn’t gotten long tail feathers yet.
The cream for the butter was so thick this morning, I had to squeeze the plastic jugs to get it out. It looked like soft serve ice cream! My helper friend filled all 3 pans with butter, so I think there’s about 8 lbs.
That’s the news from the farm this Tuesday.
