When Your Real Life Could Be A Comedy ... Except You Don’t Find It Very Funny

This hasn’t been the most productive week, so there are a lot of loose ends floating around in my brain. It worries me a little, what might spill out in this post just because it wasn’t sufficiently tied up elsewhere... but I know that writing this will help me feel like I’ve accomplished something. So even if this post is a bit scattered or boring, at least I’ll be able to say I finished something this week!

The first day of a second job on the third day of the week

Matt started another job on Wednesday (Monday and Tuesday were holidays). It’s a part-time teaching job so he has to leave at 6am to be at the facility on time. With the commute, he doesn’t get home til around 5.

The first day, the girls definitely missed him. Squirt looked at the door where he usually works in the morning and was sad when we looked in and Daddy wasn’t there. She kept saying “Dada” expecting him to turn up.

When he finally came home, I think they were relieved. Squish kept saying his name over and over with lots of commentary in between. Almost as though she was telling him all about the day and how we didn’t know where he was, but we were waiting for him to come back.

Later, Squirt looked up at him and said, “hi, Dad.” She’s imitated us saying it before but this was the first time she said it on her own. 😃

Life unscripted

My first day back to being alone with the twins, and neither girl was feeling well. Squirt stayed in my arms the whole day with a low-grade fever and Squish kept going back to her crib to lay down. And to make the whole setup more tragic/comedic, someone started doing construction in the empty unit below us!

The girls were just drifting off to sleep, when the noise from the drill jolted them awake. The floor started to shake, and that really scared the girls. They wanted to be in my lap and wouldn’t get down. The drilling kept going off in spurts. Several times I tried to put the girls down for a nap, only to have the drill start up again!

I ended up showing them a video on YouTube so they would know what was making the sound. This was the first drill with sound I could find (so not exactly accurate) but the sound was similar and the girls were fascinated ... which was funny because what you see in the screenshot is basically what the entire video was like 😂

By the time the construction finally ended (just before Matt got home), the girls were overtired and very cranky.

When Matt went to play with them, they ended up falling asleep!

I can't imagine a jack hammer/drill going off in a floor below me! Crazy!!

GG on showing them the video so they knew what was happening. That is one of the amazing things about technology.

My favorite sentences of the post; so perfect and relatable: "Squish kept saying his name over and over with lots of commentary in between. Almost as though she was telling him all about the day and how we didn’t know where he was, but we were waiting for him to come back."

It's one of the things I like least about living in a condo ... there always seems to be construction going on!

Wow what a week!

Glad it is just silly stuff....in its own way.

I guess ours is too...in its own way.

Do you know the insurance and contractore still arent done on fixing the hole in our basement from the car driving into it 4 months ago!?

Well....the hole is bricked, and is structurally sound....but the cosmetics are Kindergarten level. And the glass block window is worse and actually will be rebusted out and replaced. I lost my patience with the contractor and mason a few days ago!!! Ugh. Anyway. Good thing im not doing the Positivity challenge. I would get top prize for least positive. Ha. Take care!!

Peace

Oh my, that's crazy! I'm so sorry to hear that. Of course, the "Kindergarten level" comment made me laugh! You and @ironmanmatt should start a negativity challenge where you see who has the most negative things happen to them... I bet it'd be neck and neck. LOL

A Negativity challenge would be hilarious!!

:-P

Showing them a video of a live drill was an excellent idea @helenoftroy. @ironmanmatt might work in the day but at least he is home by 5:00 PM, and maybe he gets the weekends off too.

Have a good night all of you @helenoftroy @ironmanmatt + Twin1 & Twin2 🙂

Oh that was very cute when Squirt said, "Hi Dad!". I can just picture out her face..her cuteness and all and her expression. (I can't wait to hear Tia say the same!)

Nice trick on the video by the way! Although wouldn't it be better if they do those kind of drilling when there are no tenants in the nearby units thay would get affected?

I think that they're doing construction because it's an empty unit and someone is about to move in. But I wish they would notify us. At least we could plan to be out while they're drilling! :D

Does Tia not say much yet either? I wondered if it was just our girls...
