THE EVIL IN GIVING

When I sat down to write this article, I wanted to give it a title relating to trade by barter but I changed my mind because the context is against everything trade by barter stands for. Trade by barter started long time ago when you have something less desirable to what you need then you find someone who has what you have. The exchange between these people is what we call trade by barter. This means under trade by barter, there is giving and receiving. This form of exchange is still useful in this modern economy of ours. Now back to this article, there is an evil upsurge – the new twist in giving.

Giving is important morally, spiritually and physically but humans have found a way to corrupt the act. The new twist is definitely the evil behind giving these days. I read a story recently and it was hurtful to read so much evil in this world of today.

There was a couple in a university in Nigeria, they were the cynosure of everyone until an incident happened months after. The guy was an internet fraudster (yahoo yahoo) and the girl was just a girlfriend. He became poor at a point that the girl wanted to leave then things changed. He became rich suddenly and started giving the girl while he was stingy to everyone else. The girl was using the latest gadgets in town and everyone envied her till she got sick three months later and died. It was discovered she was used for money rituals by the said guy. The girl exchanged her life with the things she got from the guy. This is one in numerous stories happening today. Never envy anyone in this life till you hear the truth about their story.

The same evil in giving can be related to this story that happened in the Northern part of the country and I know it happens everywhere too. A 35 year old man raped a 12 year old daughter of his neighbor. He started with giving to lure the girl into his room. He would give her money to buy biscuits and other snacks just to commit this inhumane act on the innocent girl. The girl thought he was just nice to him but at the end of the rope of giving was an evil lurking in the mind of the older man. The man was jailed but the act would haunt the girl forever unless she gets the necessary help.

How wicked can man be? Staining the generosity in others for their selfish reasons. We really need to be careful when we give these days. Men have given to beggars and doom occurred instantly. This is what the world have turned into, we shouldn’t be a victim. Also, I have seen people beg to be your friends for the benefit they get from you and when that is over, they run away. Have they forgotten, there is karma?

Let me explain something real quick. Karma is truly real, when someone gives you truly, he will definitely be blessed by someone else. When you do badly to others just for your selfish interest, expect it back in the same measure because you have denied others of such opportunities and have hurt someone too.

Even though there are evils in giving, we should still give because giving is receiving. Whatsoever measure you sow, so shall you reap. Let us all be conscious and watchful when giving. If you are scared to give, go to orphanages and make some children happy. Givers don’t lack and those who lack, don’t give. A word is enough for the wise, if it is good you know how to do, please continue. If it is evil you know how to do, continue. There is a reward for every act we perpetrate on earth. Thank you.
