Forcing ourselves to feel good || Good or Bad?

in #life4 years ago

People say that and even it's a popular belief that we should not be in a bad mood for long or should try to get out of the bad emotions as soon as possible. But is that always helpful and a healthy practice or it's just a myth? Let's talk about it.

Let's not forget that even the best people we see in our live have faced bad mood situation one time or another. Even when we're not at our happy-place we can be in a low-point. But what if this isn't the case and that you just can't get out of your mood? Or you would be right if you said that it's not a great idea and that you'll be okay. There are a number of strategies that you can employ to try to get out of the bad mood.

Modern psychologists say that we need to accept every emotion we are going through. Pushing ourselves too hard to feel good may not work well always and can backfire also. This is where the theory comes 'presence of our mind'. We usually want to hold bad emotions in ourselves, try to forget about it and try other things to feel good. But psychologists are saying that there's good in every emotions and we should not force ourselves to feel good. Rather we should let the moments go naturally and it will help us to catch up the good moments automatically.

We are all on a daily quest, a search for the perfect state and we want to maintain that state over time. If you haven't noticed, there are tons of books and guides written about this topic. A key one is to start reading them, because the key to getting to better mood is reading books about what you don't want to do, what you really want to do and when it's better to do what you really want. Some other books are specific to our jobs and career and should be read up on.

But we don't have that much patience and as the 'popular belief', peer pressure is there we try to focus on what can make us feel good. You can notice how this thing actually hampers our lives. We sometimes choose wrong decisions like - emotional eating, night out, choosing the wrong partner ie. We always feel the fear that those bad emotions are gonna kill us. But if we could learn to be present in the moments and live a mindful life, we can handle those situations better.

I know it's hard and as we don't learn it from our surroundings it's really tough to adapt. But we can practice being mindful, be present, face every emotion and thus we can help us to feel better in a sustainable way. It's your decision if you want to feel better right now temporarily or feel better for a longer period of time later.
