Sleeping for six hours yet feel tired?

Have you ever gone to sleep at night peacefully, on time according to the schedule made up in your mind and you have plans for the next day running through your brain? You are constantly thinking of all the important things you have to do and things that you might not want to pay attention to as you have had given them time now? You start to trick your mind into sleeping by pretending to be asleep. So you go to sleep serenely but you wake up the next morning lethargic, clumsy, lousy and still worn-out? Why is it that even after 6 hours of sleep, you feel that way?

Here are some reasons why! And we will also provide a solution.

This might seem like something your mother tells you every day and night and you just smile, sweep away her strict statements in your mind, about not using cellphone before sleeping. But the truth is, your mother is absolutely correct, just like about everything else, in warning you about it. If you think your sleep pattern is perfect, your timing is perfect yet you feel crummy in the morning, it’s probably because you’re using your brain and eyes too much before sleeping. And that is of course the cellphone that’s with you 24/7.

Studies and researches have shown that being exposed to blue and white light (by cellphones, laptops, computers or/and your tablets) so close to eyes, with no light in the room, right before sleeping, prevents our brain from releasing melatonin, a hormone that conveys our bodies that it’s time to sleep.

You seriously need to prevent using a cellphone at least half an hour before sleeping. As that half an hour will mostly clear out your brain from all the things your eyes have seen on the screen as well as the light and beams.

Surprisingly, as much as this rule works with everything else, it works perfectly for sleep too. It doesn’t matter whether your sleep was of six hours or eight or even more. What matters is the quality. If you’ve had a sleep of six hours straight, with no ruckus and disturbance from your bladder and the noises around you, as well as no hasty commotion from anywhere else, you will wake up feeling fresh and brand-new.

So make sure when you have to sleep, everyone else around you is either already sleeping or about to. Don’t drink water right a few minutes before going to bed even if it’s only a sip. Because that sip will cost you at least 10 minutes of your sleep riot and even six hour sleep wont do you much the next day.

Another reason you might not be feeling fresh and ready-to-work after six hour sleep are that you feel anxious before sleeping. This not only includes feeling fretful about something you have planned for the next day or even for an upcoming party, presentation or a conference, it also includes your digestive system’s foreboding about you.

It might be that you ate something unhealthy or not-suitable for your digestive system an hour or so before sleeping. Your body is disturbed too while your mind sleeps. This can cause cataleptic interlude in your sleep which leads to grogginess in the morning.

If you wake up with a sore back, it definitely means your body has been in a straight, upward position all this time you were asleep (or most of the time) and you have had bad dreams as well which were a big interruption in your sleep. To get a full hold of six hours you have to sleep, you ought to try sleeping with your right hand tucked under your head and your body on your right side as well. Though, obviously, you will wake up in a different position but start off with this will allay you in a way you’ll feel overwhelmed the next morning.

It’s very right to blame the pillow if you feel tired and wake up anxious from an insufficient 6 hour sleep. The size of the pillow as well as the material the pillowcase is made of and the filling of it, matters just as much as the sleeping position. In fact, most of the time our body position during and before sleeping changes, ensuing in bad sleep, is because of the pillow.

It doesn't seem to matter how much sleep I get or how good a night's sleep I have, I never feel like getting up in the morning. I guess I'm not a morning person. I should really stop looking at my phone in bed though!!!

Timely info as I am having a bit of trouble getting all the sleep I feel I need. I would just add that it might be a good idea for some to hang some dark curtains where they sleep. I noticed that as soon as even a tiny bit of daylight hits my eyes in the morning it wakes me up and is hard to go back to sleep. I read somewhere that light, even on the skin will start hormonal reactions get the body energized for the day.

Amazing post!, less phone more sleep, I will follow you,

6 hours sleep would be lovely , I'm a T2 diabetic , sleep is a big issue with the condition , some good advice though in this post
