In the restaurant industry nobody likes a slow day. It means that people aren't coming in to eat, and if people don't come in to eat then those people aren't going to be able to tip you.

We call those days dead days. They usually involve standing around doing nothing. Of course, if there are some corporate big shots at the restaurant then a slow day means you will be racing around looking for something to do.

People that work at a restaurant do not make a normal hourly wage. For the most part the wage that they make only covers their taxes on tips, so they're essentially making nothing. Most restaurant workers get a check that says void on it.

I have to assume people that don't leave tips don't understand this. At least I like to imagine that is the case.

Yesterday several people made a boatload of money. A group came in drinking martinis and spent something like $1,200 even though there was only 16 of them. That server got tipped $200.

In the morning another server got tipped $100 for 30 minutes worth of work. Sometimes working in the restaurant industry can really pay off although it usually doesn't pay off that well.

However, if it's slow then there's no one to tip you. Since we don't really make an hourly wage either being slow means that we're really working for free.

You might be thinking why stand around when there's nothing to do when you can be doing things to keep yourself busy Well the very reason is that since we're literally working for free, it's awfully hard to want to go clean the toilets or something like that.

When the bigwigs are here we have no choice, but that's another matter since they're not there everyday.

You might be wondering why I said that slow days are the best days. Yes, today was a very slow day. I really didn't make any money and that sucks. Especially since I haven't been doing too well in the cryptocurrency market either.

However, most people that work in the restaurant industry are working literally every single day. If you run around every single day, you are really doing damage to your body. Every now and then we need a day of rest.

A day when we can sit around and talk about football or whatever else. A day when we can drink coffee and look at our phones. I don't like to do that everyday.

I know some people enjoy that as a work ethic, and I'm totally against it.... but I do think that in lieu of a day off having a day that is simply slow is great because it means we can recharge without actually having to get into our beds or something like that.

So I definitely don't mind a slow day once in awhile.

In fact, on days like today I would have to say that....

Slow days are the best kind of days.
