No one deserves to live like this.

A few weeks ago, I posted here how Ugandan soldiers are forcibly evicting communities in Oyanga, Luru, Acholi Ber and Gaji villages in Apaa area, Northern Uganda. According to Amnesty International, more than 250 homes have been burnt and destroyed.

This week, 200 courageous Ugandans living in the area travelled for hours to reach Gulu and camped at the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The protesters delivered a Petition calling for an end to the violent and illegal evictions that have left many of them homeless- with children and mothers spending nights in the bush.

I stand with these Ugandans who are fighting for the right to live in dignity. While I commend these 200 who have overcome their fears and decided not to keep quiet any longer, I must call upon all of us to stand with them. These people live in a place which doesn't get a lot of media attention, but no Ugandan deserves to live like an outcast in their own country. I hope the authorities can pay attention and listen to these brothers and sisters. Remember, injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
