Alcohol in the liver

in #life6 years ago

Alcohol in excess can damage many functions of our body, but the most important impact undoubtedly occurs in the liver.

This organ is responsible for metabolizing alcohol, so it can suffer serious diseases such as fatty liver, hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver cancer.

When the liver metabolizes alcohol, it transforms ethanol into other compounds so that it does not cause damage to the rest of the body. First, it converts it into acetaldehyde and then into acetate.

Then, a hepatitis or inflammation of the liver can arise, to then trigger cirrhosis, which is characterized by scars in the liver caused by injuries. This scar blocks a part of the blood circulation through the liver and weakens its ability to produce bile, control infections or process nutrients and medications.

You know, if you want a healthy liver, limit your alcohol consumption.
