Draw those lines and stick to them!!!
We are wired differently, each of us is unique in our own way, this makes us to have different emotions, needs and preferences. Because we are wired differently, we cannot have healthy relationships with others if we don't have our personal boundaries or if we are not able to communicate our boundaries to others.
Personal boundaries are those imaginary lines you draw around yourself that no one should cross either physically or emotionally.
Having healthy personal boundaries is a way of telling others that you know who you are and what you stand for and that you would not let others define you.
We are all entitled to self-respect and most times we want others to respect us. You cannot expect others to respect you when you don't respect yourself. One of the ways of showing that you respect yourself is to set healthy personal boundaries and stick to them. When others see that you stick to your boundaries, they would give you the respect that you deserve.
People without healthy boundaries let others define them, are people pleasers(put everyone's feeling before theirs),feel bad when they say 'No',are easily manipulated or taken advantage off, used or violated by others.
So it's clear, people will take advantage of you when you don't have personal boundaries, you would not be happy and your self-esteem will be tampered with. You deserve to be happy and you know it and your sense of worth should not be derived from others but should be defined by you.
Set those boundaries, take responsibility for yourself and how you let others treat you. Have what should go and what should not go in your life. Draw those lines, know what you will put up with and what you will not put up with. When one crosses the line by putting up a behaviour that you don't like or disrespects you, it becomes easier to say "No, I don't like to be treated this way" because you have got those boundaries laid down and you want to stick to them.
Once you have drawn those lines around you, it will be easier for you to leverage on your strengths and abilities, manage your weaknesses, maintain a healthy self-esteem and enjoy healthy relationships with your family,friends and others.

This act is misunderstood by some people to be an act of pride, setting boundaries is good, but one still have to be careful of it too.
