The 9th of May, The Victory Day and Victory songs
Today is a special day for every Russian person, and I'm sure not only Russian.
Some countries celebrate The Victory day related to the end of WWII on the 8th of May, but in Russia it's the 9th. Why? Well, this day everything was already over and people could finally feel at peace.
Today we watch Soviet WWII fimls and sing Soviet WWII songs. One of them I'm going to sing for you, I couldn't upload the subtitles to DTube, so I've decided to leave the link for my Youtube video.

It's strange, I don't think anyone even mentions Victory Day here in the UK anymore, let alone actively celebrate it! Which is odd because it makes a lot more sense than some other dates which somehow make it into the calendar...
It would have passed right by me if not for this post. Thank you for sharing such a personal reflection on Russian history, and culture, as well as snapshots form your history too :) And very nicely sung, I can hear the cadences perfectly - brave of you to do it without music!
Oh, Lazarus, the 9th of May is the reddest day of the calendar, if I can say so, in primary school children would visit veterans on this day, to give them some attention, bring flowers and listen to their stories about the war. We have a saying that goes "there is no family in Russia in which there is no veteran. My grandma was about six years old, when the war started, her uncle didn't make it through...
Haha, singing without music seems being my thing, maybe one day I learn how to play guitar and sing something else, but this time with music )))))
