YESTERDAYS GARAGE

in #life6 years ago

Took my 1997 Jeep to get some work done at a local auto repair shop. This shop is within walking distance from my house. It has been here a long time, I think it was a gas station way back when. Was closed for awhile but now run by a local guy.

The owner Kevin does the repairs with an older guy Al helping out. I couldn't help noticing the old 63' Imperial they were working on.

Chrysler introduced the Imperial in 1955 to compete with Cadillac and Lincoln. They ran from 55' to 1975. Then restarted in 81' to end production for good in 1983.

The interior was in surprisingly great shape. Fabric seats were were all in-tack. Had the odd feature of a squarish steering wheel.

Wow thats super cool. Old mechanics are a dying breed.

My go to mechanic suddenly retired leaving his customers in the lurch.

Remember some of the old time steering wheels had the horn bar thingie inside the wheel lol.

Right. this had push buttons for the auto-matic, Drive, neutral, reverse.
