Womp, Wooooomp! He Did it Again...Trumpled Tariffs

in #life6 years ago

On Friday, July 6 2018, Trump levied at least 34 billion dollars in tariffs against China. In recent tweets, Trump has insinuated that China is responsible for South Korea backing out of it's agreement to de-nuclearize, and so these new tariffs may be his way of punishing China. However, since there was no real deal with South Korea, only what Trump calls a “handshake” deal, it's hard to say what his motivations are.

The new tariffs are on a wide range of products from boats to auto parts, but seem to leave a giant slice of the economy alone: the clothing industry.

It shouldn't be lost on the reader that the only successful Trump manufacturing business he and his family have is in the clothing industry and that all—ALL--of their branded clothing is made overseas. It could be convincingly argued that Trump is guilty of self-dealing, or using his public power to benefit himself.

However, besides profiting from ongoing business while holding the levers of political power is illegal and an abuse of power in the United States, at least it has been until now, there are other disturbing issues raised with these tariffs. Such as, despite his “America First” mantra, apparently he expects others, like Harley Davidson, to live up to his rhetoric, but not his own family business.

Webster defines that behavior as “hypocrisy”.

Is it a coincidence that the Trump brand clothing is happily immune to Trump's tariffs? If you think so, I have a bridge in Brooklyn and a swamp in Florida you might be interested in buying too.

Congrats Trump... you did it again!

I think the American clothing industry is also mostly completely dead so I'm not sure tariffs on clothing would help us but your point could be right though hard to say.
