This remarkable street lamp ...
is decorated with the main elements of the coat of arms of Glasgow including the tree, the bird sitting on it, salmon with a ring and a bell.
The tree is associated with the legend that Saint Mungo, who is considered to be the founder of the city, was able after praying to light the branches of the frozen hazel to maintain the fire.
The bird symbolically tells about another act of Saint, when he revived the deceased robin.
The ringing bell of Saint was reminding people that someone had died, and therefore it was necessary to pray for such soul.
Salmon with a golden ring is another legend about Saint Mungo who saved the queen from shame. For she gave to knight the ring that was a gift of the king, and he lost it. The salmon caught by Saint was with a royal ring, and therefore everything was resolved safely.
So this street lamp can give not only a ray of light but also a ray of knowledge :D
