Gautama Buddha said each and every person has 4 wives or husbands in their lives.

The story explains this:

Once upon a time, there was a king with 4 wives. One day he got sick and was on the death bed.

Afraid of being alone in the afterlife, he asked his 4th wife whom he loved the most, and bought her diamonds, gold and elegant clothing if she would die and accompany him to the afterlife. She said I’m sorry, I can’t do that and walked away.

He asked his 3rd wife the same question, whom he loved and proud of and showed her off to the neighbouring kingdoms. She replied I love my life a lot, I’m sorry I cannot go with you and when you die I’m going to remarry.

His second wife has always been there for him in times of need, so he asked her to accompany him to the afterlife. She replied I’m sorry I cannot help you this time but i can arrange your funeral and I’ll be there for your funeral.

Then a voice called out and said I’ll leave with you and follow you wherever you go even if it is to the afterlife. The king looked and it was his 1st wife, the wife he took least care. The king was embarrassed and said I’m sorry I should have taken better care of you and should have given more attention when i was alive.

The moral of the story is that we all have 4 wives.
The 4th wife is our body. We like to decorate it with nice jewellery, nice clothing but in the end, it cannot follow us to the afterlife.
The 3rd wife represents our possessions. We spend so much accumulating these bit they cannot follow us to the afterlife and will be given to other people just like as she’s going to remarry.
The 2nd wife represents our friends and family. We trust them and they are always there when needed but the furthest they can go with us is to our funeral and send us off.
The 1st wife represents our SOUL. We neglect taking care of our soul but that is what follows us to the afterlife.

Care for your body, keep it healthy. Enjoy your possessions and comfort they provide. Cherish your friends and family for the love that they provide BUT don’t forget to care of your soul.

Nourish your soul
Take time to be alone
Take time to pray
Take time to meditate
Because it is the source of all of your life and yours most faithful friend.

An interesting story @moghul, this moral speaks of the wisdom of the ages and how we should treat ourselves!

Oh yes @moghul, a very instructive story for all of us and our soul will always be with us, so need to think about it first!

Love to see this analogy.....infact quite impressed to see Buddha preaching on Steem👍
