Nothing beats eating mangoes under a tree.
When I was walking around this afternoon , I saw this group of children eating mangoes under a mango tree. They captured my attention since it reminds me of my childhood memories. Playing hide and seek, climbing trees and running around with my cousins.
When I was a kid, I used to please my uncles and aunties to give us mangoes specifically apple mangoes. My cousins will automatically bring alamang “shrimp paste” as our dipping sauce and will run to the nearest tree. Since our parents won’t allow us to hold a knife, we usually used the peeler to open it. It’s quite difficult but it’s worth it. Once we have our first bite, (drooling) we’re eating like there’s no more tomorrow as they say. Haha. There’s no talking and biting at all, we keep on swallowing the bite-size mango until it has been totally finished and my cousin will suddenly tell us, “Agtayo man aapura! Ingas ki met” (we are not in a hurry! Please! Take some breath!). Each one of us will laugh out loud and will run to our house to drink water. We will secretly open the refrigerator and get the iced water since our parents won’t allow us to drink water right away. The funny thing about this story is when our parents will get angry on us because of the diarrhea we get in the evening. Haha
This is how grateful I am because everyone of us for sure was not able to encounter this on their childhood. Nothing really beats eating mangoes under a tree. That would be probably the best way to enjoy the real taste of a mango, indeed. Oops. We should listen to our parents, of course! 😁

Yeah. Haha but here in my place, we are wrapping the green mangoes in used newspapers then hide them usually under the bed. Just for few days after, then we have golden and sweet ripened mangoes!
