STUNNING GEMSTONES OF AFRICA

Most people know that Africa is the major source for quality diamonds, but not so many know about the beautiful coloured and special gemstones of Africa.
I collected for many years stones from all over African and attended some impressive displays that used to be held at various libraries all over South Africa.
Allow me to list a few of the most outstanding stones that I saw.
Bismuth Crystal.

Stunning colors,a crystalline white metal with various tinges, bringer of a feeling of good luck and wealth.

Rose Quartz.

One of the most favorite stones worldwide is the pinkish colored rose quarts stone.
the beads have earned a symbolic meaning for many centuries, the Egyptians believe the stone could stem the effect of aging, other ancient civilizations attach to it the symbol of love. Modern day it is supposed to have healing and calming results if used as jewelry. Of the most clear and beautiful ones can be found in Namibia.

Tourmaline Ruby.

With a variety of tones, it is an outstanding Gem and can be found in a variety of tones, of blue to green, and red to pink. Many faceted, and a popular stone in exquisite jewelry.
Tiger Eye

One of the unique stones in Africa, the tiger eye is very popular in making of jewelry buttons and ornaments. It is a metamorphic rock with a golden to red brown color with a beautiful silky luster.
Rhodalite Garnet.

One of the most beautiful plum cherry light colored stones, the term Rodalite describes the pink red and purple garnet. it is a combination of Pyrope and Almandite. Found in Zimbabwe and other African countries, an often confused with dark rubies.
Tsarovite Garnet..
One of the world's most unusual stones,and with only one source in East Africa. It is of a better quality than Emeralds, as it is tougher, brighter and a pure green tone. It is rated top grade for profound intensity, color and high clarity..
Sugilite.

found in the Eastern Cape, and believed to be the most important love stone.

Sapphires.
One of the most popular and beautiful stones, with jewelry ranging from rings, bracelets, necklaces and embedded in various other decorative jewelry. brilliant blue in color.
There are a few varieties, but one of the most interesting, is the color changing sapphire, as well as being rare.
Only a few of the wide variety of gemstones and crystals are mentioned here , but it is a worthwhile study, and interest for collectors and jewelers.
