Visit the Azores #7: Coastal trail hike with magnificent views (EN/GER/FR)

Our last day on the flower island! After the adventurous trip to Corvo and the island road trip, we have a great hike on the list today: from Fajã Grande to Farol de Albernaz.

After breakfast, we have a 10 minutes drive by car to Fajã Grande and park right at the starting point of the trail (a few meters past the church).

The initially somewhat broad track quickly turns into a beautiful trail that crawls along the coast.
The landscape is breathtaking, a few meters to the left, steep cliffs fall down to the sea, to the right of us rises the mountain which we climb step by step. Fajã Grande can still be seen behind us, which gives us a great view.

Again and again, we let our gaze wander over the ocean while hiking and hope (as crazy as that sounds) to catch a whale or dolphin in the distance (of course without success ;-))
After about 30 minutes, the trail leads through a small grove steeply uphill.

The effort is worth it: up there we have a wonderful view of the coast, the Atlantic Ocean and the small village.

The trail is very beautiful, hortensia bushes and other plants line the path.

Again, we hardly meet any other hikers on the whole route. We cross a small stream and climb partly steep wooden steps.

After a total of about 2 hours, our destination is in sight: the Ilhéu de Maria Vaz and the lighthouse in the distance. However, it will take more than an hour to arrive at our destination, which is suddenly long with the onset of hunger – you probabbly know that feeling.

Instead of hiking to Ponta Delgada and returning by taxi on the ER-1-2, we go back the same way. That's exactly what we would recommend you, because the views are just fantastic and the trail is unique!

Of course, on the way back, we finally get our break: We enjoy our sandwiches in the sun and are just happy about the peace around us.

On our last evening on Flores, we enjoy the most beautiful sunset. We are excited about the adventures that are yet to come.

• Trail from Fajã Grande to the lighthouse (Farol de Albernaz) and back: about 16 km
• Duration (with breaks) 7-8 h
• Park on the edge of Fajã Grande, past the church
• Take enough provisions, no rest points on the way!

Küstenwanderung mit unglaublichen Aussichten

Unser letzter Tag auf der Blumeninsel! Nach dem Abenteuerlichen Corvo-Trip und dem Inselroadtrip steht heute eine große Wanderung auf dem Programm: von Fajã Grande zum Farol de Albernaz.

Bei bestem Wetter fahren wir morgens nach dem Frühstück mit dem Auto knapp 10 Minuten bis Fajã Grande und parken direkt am Startpunkt des Wanderweges (einige Meter nach der Kirche).

Der zu Beginn etwas breite Wanderweg verwandelt sich schnell in einen schönen Trail, der sich an der Küste entlangschlängelt.
Die Landschaft ist atemberaubend, wenige Meter links von uns fallen steile Klippen zum Meer hinab, rechts von uns erhebt sich der Berg, den wir Stück für Stück erklimmen. Hinter uns ist Fajã Grande lange noch zu sehen, was uns ein tolles Panorama beschert.

Immer wieder lassen wir beim Wandern den Blick über den Ozean schweifen und hoffen, in der Ferne einen Wal oder Delfin zu erhaschen (Ausschau halten war natürlich ergebnislos ;-) )
Nach ca. 30 Minuten führt der Wanderpfad durch einen kleinen Wald steil bergauf.

Die Anstrengung lohnt sich: Oben angekommen haben wir eine wunderbare Aussicht auf die Küste, den Atlantik und das kleine Dörfchen in der Ferne.

Der Wanderweg ist sehr schön, Hortensiensträucher und andere Pflanzen säumen den Pfad.

Wieder treffen wir auf der gesamten Strecke kaum andere Wanderer. Wir überqueren einen kleinen Bach und steigen zum Teil steile Holzstufen hinauf.

Nach insgesamt ca. 2 Stunden ist unser Ziel in Sicht: Die Ilhéu de Maria Vaz und der Leuchtturm in der Ferne. Bis dass wir tatsächlich an unserem Ziel ankommen, dauert es allerdings noch über eine Stunde, was mit dem aufkommenden Hunger plötzlich ganzschön lange ist.

Anstatt, wie empfohlen, bis Ponta Delgada zu wandern und mit dem Taxi über die ER-1-2 zurückzufahren, wandern wir den gleichen Weg zurück. Genau das würden wir euch auch empfehlen, die Aussichten sind nämlich einfach fantastisch und der Wanderweg einmalig!

Auf dem Rückweg machen wir dann endlich eine Pause: wir genießen unsre Sandwiches in der warmen Sonne und lassen die Ruhe und die Natur auf uns wirken.

An unserem letzten Abend auf Flores genießen wir noch einen wunderschönen Sonnenuntergang und freuen uns auf die Abenteuer, die uns auf unserer Reise noch bevorstehen.

Das Wichtigste in Kürze:

• Parkplatz am Rande von Fajã Grande, nach der Kirche

Randonnée au bord de la côte avec vues magnifiques

Notre dernier jour sur l'île de fleurs! Après le voyage aventureux à Corvo et le road trip sur l'île, nous avons une belle randonnée au programme aujourd'hui: de Fajã Grande à Farol de Albernaz

Après le petit-déjeuner, nous sommes en 10 minutes de voiture à Fajã Grande et nous nous garons au point de départ du sentier de randonnée (quelques mètres après l'église).

La piste qui est assez large au début se transforme rapidement en un magnifique sentier au bord de la côte.
Le paysage est à couper le souffle, à quelques mètres à gauche, des falaises tombent à la mer, à droite de nous se dresse la montagne que nous montons peu à peu. Nous pouvons encore distinguer Fajã Grande au loin ce qui nous rend une vue magnifique.

Toutes les quelques minutes, je laisse mon regard errer au-dessus de l’océan en marchant et espère de voir une baleine ou un dauphin au loin (bien sûr sans succès, nous sommes beaucoup trop loin de la mer ;-))
Après environ 30 minutes, le sentier traverse une petite forêt, le sentier devient très raide.

L'effort en vaut la peine: Là-haut, nous avons une vue magnifique sur la côte, l'océan Atlantique et le petit village.

Le sentier est très beau, les hortensias et autres plantes bordent le chemin.

Encore une fois, nous rencontrons à peine d'autres randonneurs sur tout le parcours. Nous traversons un petit ruisseau et montons des marches en bois en partie très raides.

Après environ 2 heures au total, notre destination est en vue: le Ilhéu de Maria Vaz et le phare au loin. Cependant, il faudra plus d'une heure pour y arriver, ce qui est soudainement long quand on a un petit creux - vous connaissez probablement ce sentiment ;-)

Au lieu de faire une randonnée à Ponta Delgada et de revenir en taxi sur l'ER-1-2, nous prenons le même chemin pour retourner à Fajã Grande. C'est exactement ce que nous vous recommandons, car les vues sont fantastiques et le sentier est unique!
Bien sûr, sur le chemin du retour, j'ai enfin ma pause: nous apprécions nos sandwichs au soleil et nous sommes tout simplement heureux de la paix qui nous entoure.

Lors de notre dernière soirée à Flores, nous profitons d’un magnifique coucher de soleil.

• Durée (avec pauses) 7-8 h
• Se garer au bord de Fajã Grande, devant l’église
• Prenez suffisamment de provisions, pas de restaurants sur le chemin!
