Giving is an Art, Don't Get Tired of It

in #life6 years ago

Have you ever yourself in a situation where you feel tired of giving to people? Giving can be financial assistance or some form of kind gesture or generally being good to others.

That tired feeling mostly creeps in where there's a lack of gratitude or appreciation from the receiver. Sometimes it could be the thought of running dry, not having enough to give anymore.

I once read a story about a friend who refused lending money to one of his friends just because he lent some to another friend and he refused to pay back. For easier understanding, I'll give the friends names. I don't have a good command of the English language yet especially when it comes to punctuation marks.

Prince was in need of financial help and ran to his friend Belemo who happens to be the one that's doing best amongst three friends. Belemo had been lending money to Emeka who happens to be a spare part retailer (lol, that was not included in the original story).

Belemo had made up his mind not to lend money to anyone anymore, especially an amount he can't let go and with this in mind, everything Prince told him about his sick mom being in the hospital and him needing to raise about $100 before the doctors could start treatment fell on deaf ears.

After much pleading, Belemo decided to give him part of the money, at least he can afford to lose $30 if his friend doesn't pay back. He stuck to his new resolution and not even the sad look on his friend's face was able to make him do otherwise.

With no one else to run to, Prince went back to the hospital with the little money he could raise, to see if the doctors would have a change of heart and commence treatment with the little money he had but the doctors won't have that. They've helped many patients like that over the years and they ended up not paying their debts.

Prince had no choice than to sell some properties but on arrival at the hospital, they told him his mother had died...

He returned to Belemo with the $30 he received from him, with tears rolling down his face and said the words " I couldn't raise the money in time, my mom is gone". He had no use for the money anymore.

As he dropped the money on the table and walked away, guilt gripped Belemo. "What have I done?" he exclaimed. He had the money to help a friend in need but bulged because of the flaw of another. An act that had resulted in the death of a loved one.

I've been in situations where I've felt reluctant to give assistance to a few of my friends because of their attitude when I lend to them. Most times they take till forever to pay back. Other times they pay in so little fractions that one might end up not doing anything with the cash afterward.

My moments of happiness in life aren't get from the number of times my bank sends me credit alert or the new clothes I get for myself. Seeing someone happy and knowing that I am the reason behind that happiness gives me the greatest joy in life. That's my true measure of success...the number of lives I've been able to make positive impacts in their lives.

What if the reason why God rewards your labour is so you can constantly reach out to these people around you who are in need of help? What if they are the reason why nature is causing everything to work in your favour?

These are the questions that keep me going each time I find myself in a situation where I begin to feel reluctant about helping those around me. They might just be the reason why God is blessing me, to be a blessing to others.

Never get tired of doing good especially when you notice that you are constantly in a position of meeting people at the point of their need. If you've lost the feeling of joy that comes with meeting people at the point of their needs because of the actions and inactions of the people you've helped over the years, take solace in the fact that you are still better off than you used to be.

Nature has its own way of rewarding acts of kindness, it doesn't matter how small the gesture is. Keep up sending positivity into the universe with your amazing goodwill.
