Forgiveness As A Lifestyle

in #life4 years ago

Forgiving someone does not change their yesterday's errors but it does change the future for the better. You do not forgive because the offenders have earned the forgiveness but because you deserve inner peace. Unforgiveness, more than you think, has a way of creating internal tension within someone - this is the reason you have to develop the act of advance forgiveness (that is, forgiving prior to offence).

Just like you have not attained a state called "perfection", other people are also susceptible to errors and you do not have to expect everyone to absolutely align to your set rules.

In the event where someone offends you, you do not necessarily have to wait for apologies before forgiving them. As a matter of fact, forgiveness should be without recourse to whether the offender apologizes or not - for the sake of your internal peace.

Expecting people not to offend you is like staying around fire and wishing not to pick up the smell of smoke. As long as you come in contact with people, through interactions, relationships, business, etc, just expect some level of offence but how you deal with yours gives you an edge over the offender and the offence.

As a matter of fact, you cannot run away from offence because what others may overlook may be considered as offence by you and vice versa. You have to quit expecting perfection from your fellow humans, if not, disappointment may be inevitable.

You as a human, are you immune to offending others? Believe me, if judgment and justice automatically comes after each offence, trust me, many of us would have been deserted, lonely and depressed. If someone has ever forgiven you, then you should; of necessity; show forgiveness to others. Remember this popular phrase:

forgive others so that you can be forgiven. - Culled and Paraphrased from the Holy book.

The benefits of forgiveness is not just for the offenders (they may not even know that you were offended by their actions or inaction), but it is for your own good. You are not done with carrying the burdens of the day (stress, strain, pressures, etc), adding unforgiveness to it may just crack you under intense pressure.

Forgiveness does not mean you approved or okayed their actions, but it means you have chosen to live above the offences. If you give deaf ears to someone's plea for forgiveness, remember, it may just be your own turn tomorrow and the scenario may be reversed - with you being the one to beg for forgiveness. y'all should think about this.

Thanks for reading

Peace on y'all
