Learning; A Continuous Process

in #life6 years ago

Is there an age-limit to the process of learning? But sometimes, people tend to mistake learning for formal education. But with each passing day, we gather new experiences, and new opportunities are presented to us to improve on our skills, ideas, reasoning, and attributes; and this is what learning entails.

I remember when we were in the secondary school, a friend of mine applied for the defence academy, and one of the requirements was to bring his primary school FSLC (First School Leaving Certificate), which is not uncommon for people not to have, because you can actually enter secondary without it. So my friend didn't have the certificate. You wouldn't believe that; at the age of 15, and in secondary school; he had to sit for the examination with primary school kids just to get the certificate - that's to show you that education is not bound by age nor position, and there's no shame in pursuing the course of education.

Though education; more often than not; is not necessarily for the certification, but to acquire skills. And more importantly, to give you an open mind in lieu of an empty mind. Believe me, there's a level of thought pattern you may never attain if you're not tutored in that direction.

Knowledge does not just fall on people from oblivion - there is a need for a conscious search and research to acquire the knowledge you desire. And the acquisition of knowledge is absolutely personal. No one can acquire knowledge on your behalf.

The truth is - you can learn from anyone and everyone; your age and academic background notwithstanding. You can learn from you subordinates and superordinate. That is why learning and pride do not walk together. Because sometimes, the idea you need could be in the hands of the person you least expect.

But more importantly, when you require assistance in the course of your learning, do not hesitate to ask for it. After all, no one is considered an absolute repository of all the knowledge in the world. Always go for knowledge, and you'll be better at living.

no one is considered an absolute repository of all the knowledge in the world.
