The Beauty of Unanswered Questions

Remember when you were a child and you had like millions of questions about everything? I don't know what it is about us human beings that we are natural born explorers and have ingrained curiosity. Maybe it's because of the hundreds of thousands of years of evolution that made us this way.

Even as adults we have questions about everything and we quickly look for the answers. Thanks to the technological advancements, almost all of humanity's knowledge can be accessed from the palm of our hands.

This wasn't so easy when we were little though. There was no internet and most of the answers that we used to seek, came from either our parents, teachers or elder siblings.

As kids, we used to think that the grown ups have answers to every single question. Whatever it may be. They were "grown ups" right? How could they not know. But as we grew up, we realised that all of the people, don't know about most of the things. And there were questions that literally nobody knew the answers to.

Unanswered Questions

Take for example a simple question, "What should I do". We come across this question every single day in our lives, relating to various aspects, be it day to day work, relationships, career, or any other decisions that we have to make.

The thing is, there are no fixed answers to this. Sometimes, there aren't even any answers. All we can do really is make a decision and hope it works out the way we think. The best one can do is make a calculated decision.

Then there are also questions in the realm of science that no one knows the answer to. Like, how big is the universe? Are there alien beings? How did life begin?

No matter who you ask, you will never know the answers to these. Not yet, anyways. This realisation hits you when you're growing up and it's kind of frustrating at the beginning. I mean, how can we not know something. Somebody should know something, right? But that's not how life works.

When we gain some wisdom in our elder years, we kind of start seeing the beauty in these unanswered questions. Think about it. They create the possibility of seeking, thinking, exploring, discussing, discoveries, all that is so innate to our nature as human beings. I guess, that's what being human is.

Unfortunate that we have lost that beauty to smartphone....

Great blog post! I also really love the unanswered questions! You can discuss and philosophize about them endlessly with good friends, and still end up at the same place you started!

Also, something I like, is discovering unanswered questions. Sometimes while discussing interesting topics or hypothesis, you suddenly realize there is something you don’t know. And sometimes, even better, it is something nobody really knows!

I love it! Thanks for sharing :)

It is truly amazing isn't it? The discussions and thinking that the unanswered questions can help ensue are just awesome! One of human beings' treasured gift I think.

It truly is :)

The older I get the more I don't know.

That's so true :)

Another question is, what do you know for sure?

That's also an interesting question :D
