While strangers tend to seem more attracted to persons who are physically attractive, adults with the round baby faces mostly perceived to be kind, warm, and honest ad compared to persons who have naturally angular or sharper faces. So then its appears that when it comes to first impressions, good looks tend to really pay off big time. But then, is looking good really all that matters?

First impressions are on a general note mostly influenced by non verbal communication que and then body language as well. From clothing to accesories, hairstyles and some other aspects of a person’s outward appearance do have a large influence on first impressions. Body language and facial cues exhibit the strongest effects on first impressions. So, it seems that by simply being expressive, this is especially showing some sort of positive emotions the likes of happiness and joy) could build up a good first impression. These emotions could be expressed via the body orientation, posture, mouth position, tone of voice, eye contact and eyebrow shape.

While it might be hard to assesess or measure first impressions, due ti the fact that the factors which go into social desirability are very much highly subjective.

How fast is a first impression made?

An individual begins to form an impressions of a person just after seeing their face for less than one-tenth of a second. Between that period of time, people get to decide if or not a person is attractive, trustworthy, dominating, competent, extroverted etc.

Having said that, we could say that first impressions are made really fast. But then arent they too fast to be very accurate.

"There are stereotypes that humans associate with certain physical characteristics, and these stereotypes can greatly affect a first impression."

Against the backdrop of the quoted text, lets take some examples: Soldiers who look more serious and tough would be interpreted as being more dominant and might be shuffled into a higher rank, just based on nothing more significant than their looks. Politicians who look or appear more attractive and coordinated are usually considered to be more competent. When it comes to faces and first impressions, it is really important that we recognize the fact that faces are very much complex. Humans beings have turned out to be very attentive to even the smallest modification in facial appearances.

Are first impressions accurate?

Out facial features are usually linked with some other impressions which includes extroversion, competence, dominance and threat. All these features automatically affect the way we start treating another person. It then becomes not so surprising that humans tend to put so much weight into faces. At the point when we are babies, what we tend to focus on mostly are the faces of the persons which we are surrounded by, this over time leads to the development of face recognition skills as as well as facial-emotion recognition skills. Both skills were actually meant to help in communication, help us to read others minds and co-ordinate our actions to others emotional states rather than pass judgment on other people's character.

So then, first impressions made based on faces and looks are well inherently flawed, this is due to the fact that they are based on biases which has been developed over time.

While having to pass judgment on others based on their expressions and apperance is a rather inaccurate method of understanding a person, first impressions really are not going away pretty soon. But then making a good first impression could have a lot benefits, the likes of more friends, a better partner, better pay, and other some other valuable plusses.
