Our Oldest Transport Mode - Bullock Cart.

in #life5 years ago

The image of an empty Bullock cart, standing in my farm reminded me of my younger days, when we happily jump on them for ride. These were the lifelines for many and Carter everyones need.

My faint memory recalls about hopping on them whenever we visit to my place alongwith my Dad. My uncle use to come to railway station around 15 km on these carts to pick and then drop. It was kind of scary rides but have our share of Fun

Meet Our Oldest Means of Transport wooden Bullock cart. Made up of dried bamboo and woods. These were use to ferry people as well as many loads to far off distant....The existence of these carts shows how much we were dependent on them. Though these were now mostly use to carry loads like Paddy's and other stuff, but these happen to be the only way of transport around my village.

Just imagine the life of the people around 50-80 years back. My place where electricity came only 3 years ago, how people use to travel during those old time. Then the Bullock carts were the life line for them. No proper Roads, no basic amenities, and jungle all around. It's kind of too much struggle for them. But having these carts on the neck of Bullls helped them by every means. Big wooden wheels, makeshift sitting arrangement and the front shoulder as in a strong wooden piece to tie the bulls quite amazing how they use them, no doubt many people would assume them as cruelty to animals, but what people would have done. Even our ancestors have lived upto them.

Well I did not get chance to show these carts with animals, but I have a different picture of them, which I will share some other day. For sure with the amount of Paddy's at the background, I have hinted about the loading status of these carts.

The carts hardly require any kind of maintenance, only the wear and tear on the planks or the wooden parts, which can easily get replaced. When we use to ride on them, my uncle uses to put some hand made cushions or Rugs onto them to give us comfort. We have seen a complete transformation now from Bullock cart on the weary teary road to motor vehicle on the plain roads now a days. Simply an achievement in itself.

Still, the fun and enjoyment of riding the carts are un-paralled. Though you easily get tired with backache problems but it was need of that time and we should respect them.
