in #life6 years ago (edited)

Our diet is simply enough to supply us all we need to build a great body. Just like the guys back in the 50’s, it’s very possible to build a better body on a real good diet combined with the right type of exercise, but one challenge about this approach is that it often takes longer time, energy, and it as well consumes more money. However, supplements always serve as helping hands making it much easier to get all the essential nutrients needed to build a great body.

Should you use supplements as diet replacements?

Supplements may be great in helping you easily achieve your fitness goals, that doesn’t make them a replacement for a good diet. They are only meant to fill in the nutrient gaps and not to be given the place of our diet completely. When supplements are rightly combined with the proper diet, it provides the necessary nutrients required for muscle building and thus gives you an edge in your training.

Do I need to still visit the gym while taking supplements?

Just like your diet, exercise is also important for you to achieve your fitness goals – either bulking up or losing weight. So, even if you gulp in a bunch of supplements, if you aren’t hitting it hard in the gym, you may not see any tangible result. Before you decide to go on the journey with supplements, make sure everything is right with your diet, workout exercise, and your sleep time.
Here in this article, I have listed 6 effective supplements that will help improve your performance and as well naturally help enhance your size.

#1: Creatine

Creatine is has become a popular supplement in the fitness world shortly after its introduction in the early 90s, and has since then, became a choiced supplement for athletes. It is a supplement known for its ability to enhance significantly boost muscle mass amplify strength gains. By hydrating the muscle tissue, it helps promote an increase in the size of muscles and as well provides you with enough strength to train harder for a better result. Though creatine is present in foods like raw meats, it is far better to go for the supplements as more of it can be gotten at a cheaper rate than from meats.

#2: BCAA

The Branched Chain Amino Acids include the three major essential amino acids that are directly metabolized by muscle tissues. The 3 amino acids are valine, leucine, and isoleucine. These branched chain amino acids are important for your fitness as they help in the building of lean muscles and as well helps in the immediate recovery of muscle tissues after a strenuous workout at the gym. For every serious bodybuilder, no doubt, BCAA should always be on their supplements list.

#3: Omega-3 Fish Oil

Omega-3 fatty acids are not only known to boost brain power and help prevent many cardiovascular diseases, but it has also proven to be very effective in helping achieve weight loss by maximizing metabolic rate and in helping to build muscle.
These fatty acids are richly packed in cold-water fishes like salmon and mackerel, but getting substantial quantity out from these natural sources often remain the challenge. However, fish oil supplements are good alternatives containing enough Omega-3 fatty acids in the purest and most concentrated forms.

#4: GrassFed Whey Protein

When it comes to staying fit – either losing weight or bulking up, you sure can’t get enough of protein. And the best protein which is often used for pre and post-workout purpose due to its quick digestion and absorption is whey protein. However, the GrassFed whey protein has been found to be higher in nutrient values due to the quality source they are coming from – cows fed with grass unlike those fed with grains for commercial purpose. Immediately after your workout at the gym, the next thing you will want to reach for is your whey protein shake. It allows you have an exponentially quick muscle recovery and as well restores your energy stores.

#5: L-Glutamine

L-Glutamine is especially known for its ability to help with immune response and muscle recovery. Stress will have little effect on muscle tissue when L-glutamine is abundant in the body. However, it’s unfortunate that after a hard training session, the levels of L-glutamine reduces to up to 50% in the body which makes supplementing L-glutamine important. Every hard trainer will know the importance of quick recovery and L-glutamine is just what is needed to get the job done.

I would absolutely refuse to take #3 and #4 and then only take #2 (BCAA) if it was a vegan version and 100% plant derived. Most all traditional BCAA blends use bird feathers.

The American soil is so depleted now, there's 50% less nutrients in our food compared to 50 years ago. It sucks we have to take supplements, but it's either that or be nutrient-deficient. Hmm...I'll take supplements.

All the supplements you mentioned are fantastic. I'll just add a good probotic in there for good gut flora.

I take supplements on a daily basis. Here is a pic of my 2-year-old and leaving him for 2 seconds alone. He's not the type to put things in his mouth, thank God!

Supplements now play a vital in health, but all the do is supplement healthy eating.

Yeah. you are right.

My late dad took less of oil as recommended by the doctors, hoping it will help him with cholesterol balances. It never worked. Until he started to take omega-3 oils that great changes occured.

What i'm saying here is that, often times, we need, as @steemhealthcare wrote, a culmination of supplement intake and good diets to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Well true enough, thats after the damage has already occurred, but before we get to the point where we are visiting the doctors, healthy eating, prevents that visit.

they are good for the health of the body

Omega 3 everyday! (Just make sure that the supplement is from a reputable brand).

Your disclaimer is important.
The problem with not only what to adopt but what should be the dosage. People are different and each one has a different approach to fitness.
Thanks for sharing.

Vitamins C and D also tend to help a lot, especially in wintertime, not only to weight loss but to general maintenance.
I also try to take magnesium from time to time, to avoid muscle cramps.
Thanks for this post :-)
