The Măcin Mountains are a mountain group belonging to the Dobrogea Mountains. The highest peak is Ţuţuiatul Peak, 467 m.

These mountains represent the most obvious residual witness of the hercinic orogenesis at the end of the Paleozoic with inselberg aspect (mountain island). They occupy the northwest corner, rising above the Brăilei Island with over 300-400 m and stretching in the form of a narrow hilltop (called the Bugeac Pinnacle) near to Galati. To the southeast they are separated from the Babadag Plate through the Iaila Pass or Carapelit. To the west they are flanked by Ostrovul Brailei, to which they fall in step, and to the southeast they extend over the wide valley of Taitia and reach the valley of Lozova, thus encompassing two small peaks: Coşlugea and Boclugea. This morphological delimitation also corresponds to the tectonic ramping line Luncaviţa-Consul, which separates them from the Niculiţel Hills. Another point of separation between these units is the Teilor Pass, which lies between the basins of Taipei and Luncaviţei.

Taking the overall shape of a sharp triangle, Măcinului Mountains have the widest width between Turcoaia and the Lozovei Valley, where they reach 24 km. They run in the direction of the NV-SE in the form of parallel, more numerous and more fragmentary hills, in part S-SV, having a main peak, beginning in Bugeac and up to Carpelit Hill.

This main mountain chain culminates in height at the top of Tuzhuiat (467 m). The Pietrosul Mare Peak (426 m) and the Pietrosu Peak (Pietrosul Mare) extend to the northwest, after which the heights gradually decrease, reaching 100-170 m near the Vacareni locality, and in the Bugeac spur at 95 m. To the southeast on the peak of Ţuţuiatu, the main peak of the Măcin Mountains continues through a series of hills, such as Costiag Hill (428 m), Negoiu Hill with the Piatra Mare Peak (380 m), Hill's Hill (354 m), Crapcea Hill 344 m), Dealul Carapcea and Carpelit Hill (350 m).

Geological formations predominant here are Gnaisian borders, shale, grauwackles and conglomerates (the Carpelit formation), borders and diorites on the highest part (where the tip of Ţuţuiatu is located), quartzite, filites, etc.

Next to the west is the first summit called the Summit, with the tip of Pricopan (370 m) and the massive Maegina (285 m), which converges through the Carapacea Hill towards Carpelit Hill.

The ridge of the Pricopan or the Key (with numerous sharp peaks) and the Megina massif closes the Greek slopes, drained by two broad valleys, - Dumbrava and Plopilor, which extends to the northeast, with the upper part of the Cerna depression. This secondary peak is made up of gneiss granites, bitches, quartzites and amphibolites, intensely disaggregated. To the northwest, the summit of Pricopan extends through Sărăica Hill, but with smaller heights.

Also to the west, there is a second secondary peak, parallel to the previous ones, made up of several massive mammalonare, of insular character, drowned in loess and set behind the scenes, where the hills of Orliga (117 m), Carcaliu (95 m) , The Rial Stone (112 m), Priopcea (409 m) and Mircea Voda (206 m). These are made up of quartzite, which predominates in the Priopcea massif, from pimples, fillets, etc. and developed in the steppe, low low.

The last heights, which are in the form of completely isolated massifs, are Iacobdeal, with the tip of Victoria (341 m) and Red Stone (both made of granite), then Pebble Hills (38 0 m), where there are sandstone, shale and limestone of Devonian age.

On the eastern side of the Măcin Mountains, up to the valley of Lozova there are only two parallel peaks, the first formed by the Coşlugea Hill (336 m) and the second one from the hills Pîrlita and Boclugea (393 m), also made of quartzite, Proterozoic age borders. In the northeast of the Măcin Mountains there is the upper Taipei Depression, with a longitudinal character (Nifon-Balabancea-Horia), which, through the Teilor Pass, extends in the depression of Luncaviţei.

Within the upper Taipei depression there are deluvio-proluviale glaciers with good lands for crops and pastures. Generally, Măcinului Mountains are presented tectonically in the form of a great anticline, of which the erosion, very accentuated and long, brought to the surface the depths of the loco-local bodies. During the Triassic transgression they formed an island. The general structural lines, especially the inverse faults with the NV-SE directions of the Măcin Mountains, are relieved in its relief not only by the orientation of the mountain-hills, but also by the orientation of the mountain-hills, but also by the direction of the main valleys, such as Luncaviţa, Taiţa, Lozova etc. These mountains, low in height and hills (as most of their names appear), are imposed in the general geographical landscape through numerous sharp peaks and steep slopes, full of grooves (especially granite sectors).
